Drunk/foggy Feeling Posted: 12-25-05 12:25pm
I have been experiencing anxiety for the
last 6 months, ever since I fell and hit
my head after blacking out from drinking
some powerful unregulated vodka-like rice
alcohol called "soju" (common in korea).
Immediately after, I admitted myself
to the emergency room because I felt like
I was hanging on to life by a thread and
tripping out bad. The doc just said I was
anxious and dismissed me.
Whether I experienced a concussion or
just horrible anxiety and paranoia, I feel
nauseous and spacey every day. I also
feel like there is a veil over reality,
and people and things are not as real as
they were before. This may sound crazy,
but I feel like I have cheated death and
maybe i'm not supposed to be here, like
i'm living past my expiration date, and
that's why my quality of life has
diminished. Sometimes I feel like I don't
know the people that are closest to me.
Anyway, if anyone can relate, please let
me know.

Believe it or not, this is a common
symptom of anxiety, I have had this
feeling many times before and found it to
be linked with anxiety/stress. I advise
you to look up 'depersonalisation' and you
will find lots of information on what it
is and what causes it.

Hi,
i can relate! I suffer from anxiety/panic
attacks and depression. I have had that
feeling! I just had it last week and it
has subsided so I am glad, but I have
suffered with it on and off for months.
I feel like I am in a dream sometimes or
like I am outside of my body watching
myself! It is a very frightening feeling.
I too have been told it is anxiety and
stress!
Stay positive and read the posts under the
title feeling weird constantly! You'd
feel a lot better!
Good luck

This spacey feeling is
derealization/depersonalization and is
caused by an unresolved response to
trauma.
You've lost contact with yourself and need
to reconnect to your body and your
surrounding environment. Once this is
accomplished you'll feel like new again.
You must allow the symptoms to peak on
their own, without fighting them. The
more distressed you are by the symptoms,
no matter how weird or strange they feel,
the more likely they are to persist.
I didn't start to reconnect with myself
until 11 years after a terrifying incident
in which, I too, believe I cheated death.
In reality, I was not even close to
death -- it was merely my own (flawed)
interpretation.
[ traumatic symptoms are not caused by the
''triggering'' event itself. They stem
from the frozen residue of energy that has
not been resolved and discharged; this
residue remains trapped in the nervous
system where it can wreak havoc on our
bodies and spirits. The long-term,
alarming, debilitating, and often bizarre
symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder
(ptsd) develop when we cannot complete the
process of moving in, through and out of
the ''immobility'' or ''freezing'' state.
However, we can thaw by initiating and
encouraging our innate drive to return to
a state of dynamic equilibrium. ]
i recommend reading peter levine's books
on trauma. I think they'll help you
move on, and rather quickly. Nip this
in the bud now; don't lose 11 years of
your life, as I did.
Best regards,
jeff

Hi I can relate to everything that you
have said, I have had this feeling
constantly for a year now however it is
getting better. The best way to beat it
is to get involved in your life again and
not worry about the feeling. Its only a
sensation and can`t hurt you. I know how
distressing it can be but the only way I
find it gets better is to submerge myself
in other things.
Do what you love, whether it be sports,
reading etc. It really takes your mind
off how your feeling. It is hard at first
but its worth the effort. Any programme
you read or buy will tell you the same
thing, to ignore it and try to enjoy your
life again.
I find it a great relief that there are
others in the world feeling the same as
me. Reassurance can be a great healer
too.
Good luck

jeff, it is interesting what
you are saying about unresolved energy
causing the symptoms. This sounds kind
of like the theory behind eft - emotional
freeedom technique - that unresolved
emotions and disrupted energy cause the
symptoms.
I find eft very simple with no need to
think about the process of reconnecting to
your body - you just tap on different
acupuncture points while thinking about
the trauma. You don't have to get into
the trauma again - it is very gentle.
It has worked very well for me and they
give away the training manual online at www.Emofree.Com
thanks for that info
c
thanks for the web site. I found that
maybe 2 weeks or so ago. It was nice to
come here and see it as well.
I do what probably can be considered to be
eft. I don't really think much about the
original trigger (that which set off the
trauma). Focusing on the original trauma
doesn't seem to be necessary or important
-- and many professionals agree.
I use a powerful showerhead when doing eft
sometimes. So not always do I use my
fingers, but sometimes a strong blast of
water. This is not tapping, of course,
but has its own benefits as well.
Kind regards,
jeff

I can definately relate to you. Once in
awhile I get really spacey and I feel like
i'm in a dream and I can't control what I
do...As if I were drunk. I'm like this
now too...It started like 3 days ago.
All of a sudden I just got really spacey
and started questioning everything...Even
stupid things. I definately think it's
related to stress because a similar
episode happened to me about last year
sometime while I was on a military base.
I felt like I was slipping into
unreality...It was an awful feeling. I
also felt the need to constantly be near
people. The same things are happening to
me now too because I have a lot of stress
in my life recently. I say time heals
all wounds...Just relax yourself, deal
with your problems head on, and try to
engage in things that'll take your mind
off of your stress and anxiety.

Feeling the Same Way Posted: 05-06-07 20:21pm
I have been feeling the same way..it comes
and goes every once in a while and in fact
I am feeling like that right now
I have been sick for about five months now
with chronic upset stomach which has
greatly disrupted my life... my health
issues really stress me out not to mention
that I work full time and am a full time
student so I have a lot of stress and
pressure.
Some days, as in the past few days, I have
felt lilke I am on auto-pilot and like
although my brain is working and my body
is moving the two are not connected and I
am not connected to my environment.
I feel a bit better amongst friends and in
social settings versus when I am at work
(of course!)..
Good to know I'm not alone! Anyone have
tips on how to help this foggy feeling?

Feeling the same way. Posted: 02-10-08 23:21pm
I am new to this forum. I have found it
very helpful to read other people's posts.
I am a 29 year old female experiencing the
same feeling of lightheadedness/spacey
feeling in my head. I am a worry wart. I
obsess and think about things too much. I
think that this has caused my fog-spacey
feeling in my head. When you worry, it
produces anxiety. I do not take any
medication currently. I have been through
anti-anxiety therapy in the past. But
lately I feel like I do need medication.
Will this feeling ever go away? Do I have
to be put on an anti-depressant for it to
go away? My head has felt like this for 4
weeks now.

I'm 25 and I have felt the same way for a
few months now. I can only describe it as
a "medicine head" or anasthetic feeling.
I've been going day after day in a fog.
Its awful. I've had a few panic attacks
before starting when I was 22. I was on
Zoloft for a while immediately after and
it seemed to help at the time. Even though
I've never had this symptom before I am
going to get back on it. I just had a
physical and I seem to be in good health,
so anxiety is the only thing I can think
of, even though I'm not consciously
stressed about anything.
