It has not yet been confirmed that
caffeine from coffee has a negative impact
on a fetus. For the mother, caffeine has a
slight psycho-stimulatory effect on the
brain, providing higher psychic attention
and wakefulness. Caffeine affects the
neuro-vegetative system causing two
opposite processes: hypo-tension and
hyper-tension. In some people, both
processes are neutralized so that there
are no changes in blood pressure. In other
people, one of the processes is stronger
so that caffeine causes blood hypotension
or hypertension. Caffeine also increases
the secretion of stomach acid which makes
the condition worse in people who suffer
from peptic ulcer or gastritis. The
pregnancy itself doesn’t make
caffeine’s effects stronger or weaker
than usual. Therefore, I believe that
there are no differences between
caffeine's effects on pregnant versus
unpregnant women.
