Very Worried.... Posted: 12-30-05 13:42pm
Okay so I just got a kitten about 3 weeks
ago, not knowing when I got it that they
carry a virus called toxamoplasis that can
be in great danger to my unborn baby.. I
know I can only become infected if im
around its poop, but they also touch their
poop with their claws. Last night I got
clawed pretty bad by the kitty and when I
woke up today my finger kind of looked
like it had a blister on it where she
clawed me. Now im getting worried about
catching this virus.....

Have you had cats in the past??
If so you prolly have immunity to it.
But still dont touch the litter box, or
his poop. If for some reason you have
to wash well, before putting fingers in
your mouth or near your food. Wash
well after touching kitty, and before
touching food, or putting fingers in your
mouth. A kitty scratch is really
dirty. Clean it with peroxide, and if
you have triple antibiotic use it to.
A lot of times injurys turn like
blister--body send excess fluid to injury
to heal it. Just like burn blister
without the sac, it is normal. Looks
like blister cuz the opening is trying to
close. Open it if you can for the
peroxide, one time is sufficient to get
germs out of the inside of scratch.
Then put anibiotic if you have it. If
not just put peroxide a couple times.
Im sure it is fine. I dont think you
can get toxi from the scratch anyway.
I heard you have to get the "bugs" from
the poop into your mouth.

Nope this is my first cat.. I've been
around many cats though... Never a litter
box. If it is possible that I have the
virus, does it always harm the baby?
