Sexual Health - Men Question Posted: 01-05-06 18:25pm
Im 18 and recently (5 months ago) found
out I have hpv. Yes I have warts and am
very adiment about getting rid of them and
am trying to do everything I can to rid
myself of them. I have read (pamphlets)
and heard from my doctor that many people
will "clear" or build up immunities to the
virus in one to two years. With analysis,
the girl I got it from and I dated for
about 7 months. Ive had four months of
treatment and the treated areas are doing
fine. I am wondering if their is anything
I can take to boost my immune system on
top of diet and excersice. Ive been
reading online about some herbs and
"pills" that claim to boost your immune
system. Certain ones such as Manitake and
Glutathione or Interfuron (sp.) seem to be
what im looking for, but im not sure. Is
their anything Im missing? And is their
any harm in taking them? Are there other
herbs, minerals, pills that I should be
looking into? Are their any other things I
can do in conjunction with my treatment
(cryotherapy) to speed and/or strengthen
the treatment?

Unfortunately, there is no medical cure
that will eliminate HPV completely. The
only current treatment for HPV is the use
of pharmaceuticals and procedures for
local treatment of the warts and other
mucosa/skin changes. The immune system
alone destroys and limits an HPV outbreak.
Pharmaceuticals used for local treatment
are: Imiquimod cream, 20 % podophyllin
antimitotic solution, 0.5 % podofilox
solution, 5 % 5-fluorouracil cream,
andTrichloroacetic acid (TCA). Procedures
used for local treatment are: freezing
(cryosurgery), burning (electrocautery)
and laser treatment. If the warts are
large, surgery removal is indicated as a
possible treatment. Alpha-interferon is
also used for local treatment but is very
expensive. Warts can disappear with no
treatment or show up again after the
treatment. It depends on your own
system's immunity. All the substances you
mentioned for immunity improvement
(Manitake, Glutathione, Interfuron) are
not currently scientifically proven to
boost your immune system.
