Veeg Extended Stay In Hospital.
Posted: 01-05-06 23:55pm

I am writing because I recently had a veeg in hospital for 4 days. In the examination room before they took me to my ward, I had to have a normal eeg and when the flashing strobes was on I had a huge seizure the dr who was doing the eeg, stopped it and got some of the neurologist to come in and see me in the seizure. I was taken to my room and there I stayed for the rest of the time. I have had seizures now for over 2 yrs I am a 23yr old female and I am on epilim 1200mg morning and night also im on keppra 1000mg morning and night. The first night the drs sleep deprived me and took away my keppra. 4 hrs after being off my keppra I had seizures. They called them absence seizures that turn to grand mal seizures. I was off my keppra 36hrs and my epilim alone didnt hold my seizures away. So I had many while I was there. It was all caught on video camera and computer. I still havent gotten my report from the specialists. So I still dont know what to do. But I have never really gotten a propper diagnoses. Do you think that I am really epileptic. The screens went crazy with brain wave lines when I had these episodes. And then took atleast a hr to go back to normal after the event. So I only have abnormal brain waves when I have a seizure. I heard the drs say I had myochlonic epilepsy or something as a child that was never picked up. So I wonder what it is now. And they said that I might have to go back into hospital

Not sure what you mean by a proper diagnosis. Sounds like they saw you have seizures and the eeg picked it up and they told you what kind of seizures you have. Sometimes there is not a syndrome it is just a diagnosis of generalized epilepsy, like in your case?

I hope you can find the best medication and have it control your seizures.

Hi Kayakmom

Well firstly thankyou for replying.

I have had seizures for over 2 yrs now. The 1st neuro fobbed me off saying I was a wacko , needing some attention or something and sent me to a shrink. So I went to see the shrink, couldnt find anything wrong with me there, no attention disorder, know what I mean. As the first neurologist said no epilepsy on the eeg, must be faking seizures.
So I got a second oppinion as I had more seizures, my doctor in the end put me on tegretol not knowing much about epilepsy but as he knew me he believed me and gave me the medication at a low doseage. ( 100mg twice daily.
2nd neurologist believed me - I was sent to this 2nd neurologist by my doctor for further tests, ct, mri - all came back clear and normal. So a eeg sleep deprived was suggested, I went took 20 minutes. Week later results were back at neurologists and he said no signs of epilepsy when sleep deprived.
Still I felt like a wreck, I didnt know what was happening in my life, I started to question myself and ask myself why this was happening to me and not my siblings. I know thats mean but I just wanted to go back to work I mean I had bills and a job that I had lost because of my sudden sickness. I was having these daily. But no one believed me. So you see I felt like I was in limbo, but the entire time I have had all you guys here and I thankyou very much for helping me and pulling me through in this hard tough time of my life as my parents are not around to help me and they live so far away.
I moved from the city to live with my girlfriends family in the country on a farm and I started seeing their doctor. He sent me to a neurologist here that is a few hrs away.
So this neurologist is now the 3rd - I was told to keep a diary, take folic acid as I am on epilim, and as my seizure activity hadnt lessened, he admitted me to hospital for these extra tests. No long wait either. He chose the times one week before my period. And it worked. I finally had spikes, I mean I am happy and not down for once in my life because I know its not all in my head well... I know now that im not imagining it all. And if I could I would tell those two first neuros whom almost made me want to die to shove their pseudo seizure diagnoses. Because I now have medical fact that I am epileptic.
I just thank you all for your replys and I thank you
kayakmom for replying to me most.
