Haven't Slept For Four Months:( Posted: 01-07-06 04:07am
Hey there. I havent had a decent nights
sleep in four months. At first I use to
make myself panic or make my heart nervous
for no reason when in bed. Its like I
know I shouldn't be doing it but then my
mind gets the better of me and I actually
end up making my heart nervous and beat
fast. Anyway, I had this problem for
about 3 months. Now its gone and I don't
make myself panic or get nervous anymore.
Now I jus can't fall asleep! For 2 months
I have not even got a minutes worth of
good sleep. I'm scared I might be
suddenly mentally incapable of
sleeping:(:(:(; is this possible? I use
to have these anxiety problems before but
I used to overcome them and then was able
to sleep well. I know all about sleeping
tips e.G plan your sleep, don't drink
caffeine etc.. It doesn't work for me.
Can anyone who has or is having or knows
about this same problem let me know what I
can do....

this is something that a lot of people do,
it's misleading to think of sources of
stress as being purely external things.
Painful memories, or the anticipation of
an unpleasant event can be just as
disturbing as actual pain.
So, it's not really that surprising that
the dreaded anticipation of yet another
day without sufficient energy can be
upsetting enough to disturb sleep by
itself.
Just as worrying about work can prevent
sleep, so can worrying about lack of
sleep.
States of stress prevent the individual
from gaining true deep restorative rest.
The effect of any sleep is negligible.
As others have stated, no matter how much
you doubt them, relaxation techniques,
including perhaps soundwave therapy
(shameless self promotion: www.Cymaticaudio.Com
:) ) will be of help I am certain.
After being stressed for so long it sounds
to me like your body has now become used
to producing higher levels of adrenaline
and cortisol. This is bad news for the
nerve endings which become dull to
compensate for overstimulation (don't
worry too much however, rest resolves
everything in time).
You should look at dietary concerns as
well, particularly a diet rich in b
vitamins and minerals will go someway to
improving the situation. Increasing the
amount of foods containing potassium in
your diet is generally a good idea given
that the brains balance of salts has such
a central role in function.
'getting back on top' takes some time, and
lifestyle changes but it is something that
anyone can achieve.
