I had a very painful ultrasound to check
my gallbladder. They said everything
looked fine, but the pain was so bad that
I was stifling a scream and I was crying
throughout. I have had endometriosis and
tmj, so I have a high pain threshold. I
have had a pain under my right rib for 3
years now and every doc I see says
gallbladder. I have had several
ultrasounds - the most recent was the
last i'll ever have - and even one dye
test - and the gallbladder is fine. Has
anyone hears of such bad pain with an
ultrasound?

I had my first ever u/s today. It was to
check my entire abdomen. She spent extra
time on the gallbladder. The tech of
course can't tell me anytihng, but she
spent a lot of time in that area and it
was pretty sore and a bit painful.
Especially as she jabbed my ribs. Lots
of gas bloating so she said she had to
press extra hard.
She did the left side, where i've noticed
the most pressure, and it didn't hurt at
all even though I could feel her poking
just as hard.
I dunno, maybe I just had a careless tech.

Hida Posted: 01-21-04 23:29pm
The gold test for gallbladder is hida scan
with cck injection. Mine showed ejection
at 8%. Anything below 30-35% is
considered low. If they are telling you
it's the gb, then get a hida. My dr told
me she'd order a hida but she felt it was
a long reach. Well, at 8% I think it
wasn't such a reach afterall.

I just received the results of my hida
scan and their
aren't any gallstones, but the doctor said
that it is
probably gravel. He said the results were
23% and
that less than 35% was low. He recommends
surgery,
but he's leaving tomorrow for a 3 week
vacation.
Are their any real alternatives for gravel
in the
gallbladder? He said that their isn't,
but he is
a surgeon, and therefore.. I think that
i'm going
to get a second opinion from a gastro
specialist.
I have a little back ache from time to
time, some gas,
and a dull ache over in the area of the
gallbladder. My
doctor didn't seem in too big of a hurry
about my problem,
so i'm wondering how much time that I
really have before
gallbladder surgery or an alternative is
immediately needed.
Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks in
advance.

Painful Ultrasound Posted: 04-01-04 21:30pm
I totally understand what you mean about 1
and a half years a go I started of with
bad pains in my right side I was down the
doctors like every other week and not once
did they get it right. I was only 19 you
see so they thought oh she's too young for
gallstones a year later they finally get
me admitted to the hospital 2 months later
I go for my consultation a month later I
go for my ultrasound and yes it really
hurt I came up in a massive bruise and was
in pain for a number of days.
Anyway they finally sent me for a dye scan
(what ever its called) and I have
gallstones ton's of the little b*ggers
needless to say I went and proved the
doctors wrong but now im on a 6 months
waiting list for an operation.
Pain is unbearable but they wont do
anything unless im throwing up or turning
sick!!!!
Hope you find a cause soon!

I feel your pain. I have had a pain in my
right side for years. Had all the ultra
sounds and finally they check my colan.
Which revealed 12 ulcers and mild crones.
You may want them to check that?
