I had a surgical abortion 6 weeks ago :(
and I still have not started my period,
iam not on any form of birth-control
(stupid, I know) and I have been having
unprotected sex with my bf 3 days after
the procedure (stupid, I know). I was
just wondering how long does it take after
an abortion before you get your period???
Is it possible to get pregnant right after
abortion????

It is extremely easy to get pregnant after
an abortion, and you may in fact be. I
became pregnant after an abortion because
I thought I could not so soon, that was
before I went to nursing school.. So I
had 2 abortions in 2 months time.. You
should have a period approx 4-8 weeks
after an abortion. If you are indeed
pregnant again and want to have another
abortion, it is best to speak with the
clinic. You see pregnancy tests can still
come up positive quite a few weeks after
an abortion, so if you suspect you are, an
ultrasound is the best bet. I told them I
thought I was, and they gave me an
ultrasound. I felt embarassed, but they
treated me with kindness. If you need
anyhting feel free to ask.I myself work pt
in clinics :)

Thanks a bunch for the reply...Exactly 4
weeks after the procedure, I bled
(accompanied with sticky discharge) for
only a day, it was not heavy and it was
light in color. I since then have
started having some pregnancy symptoms
(dizzy spells only 3, weird feeling in my
bb's, really bloated, kinda tired around
lunch-time and I have cramps in the middle
- bottom part of my stomch. Who knows, my
period might be trying to come on . I to
am in nursing school, 1 year left thank
goodness. I

1 year left? Great! Pretty soon you'll
be ready to hop to it :)
I know those wierd feelings.. Perhaps
just in case take a test.. But I worry
that there could still be some hcg left
from the last pregnancy, and may give a
false positive.. Keep us updated..

I wanted to tell you that it could take up
to two months before getting your period
again. I also wanted to ask you if you
were having any post abortion syndrome?
I had an abortion about 6 months ago and I
came to this site looking for support.

It has been six weeks and still not
period, I guess im just paranoid. I have
really bad dreams about the abortion, I
find myself crying just about every day,
wondering if I made the right decision.
All I know is that its done and I cant
change it if I wanted to. I regret the
decision every single day and I do know
one thing and that is I will never ever no
matter the circumstances do it again. I
would be finding out what I was having in
a couple of weeks that is really going to
be a bad time for me.

my advice is to never regret anything. I
have made some very bad desicions and I
hurt people very close to me... I don't
regret these things, but do I wish I had
done them differently? Yes. Do I wish I
could go back and change them? No. That
kind of thought is self-destructive, and
leads no where. Learn from your past,
remember the choices you have made. But
never wish to go back and change them,
because you can't. These choices have
made you who you are today, and you need
to be happy with who you are.

I guess all we can do is learn from our
decisions. I feel like if I had been
given more time I might have made the
decision to keep the baby. We can make
ourselves crazy thinking "shoulda, coulda,
woulda". I just tell myself that I will
never do it again no matter what. I feel
very depressed about my decision but i'm
hoping that time will heal me. Sometimes
I feel like getting pregnant again will
help...But, I know that won't make what
happened go away. We are lucky that we
had the choice to get the procedure done
in a safe and sterile environment. You
are a good person and don't tell yourself
anything different.

As others have said, it is quite easy to
get pregnant very soon after an
abortion.
However, if you don't want another child
and don't want pregnancy to interfere with
your schooling, then abortion is probably
the best decision you can make, regardless
of the fact you just had the procedure
done. If you know you wouldn't be able to
provide for a new baby, it would probably
be more humane to abort it than bring it
into a world where it may not have
everything it needs or to stick it in a
foster home where it will have no real
family until it's adopted (which is a
maybe).
If you don't want another child, you will
be doing yourself and the child a great
service by not bringing it into an
environment where it's not 100% wanted.
Also, you're in your last year of college
- you're so close to your career that you
can almost taste it. It would be a wasted
effort to have to drop out in your final
year for the child or to get your degree
and be saddled with a sprog
post-graduation.
If you are, indeed, pregnant again, please
do not let anyone make you feel guilty if
you wish to have another abortion.

Jordansmom, I am in the exact same
situation as you are
except for having the symptoms. How are
you now? Have you
gotten your period? I hope it all goes
well for you!

Thanks for all the support and no, I
havent gotten my period yet maybe my body
is just re-adjusting to not being
pregnant. Its funny because I have no
symptoms of pregnancy or my period, they
just went away. Tomorrow will be exactly
6 weeks since the procedure. Monday, I
went to have a blood test and it came back
negative sooooo I dont know whats going on
with my body :? You guys really are
wonderful, so how are you doing????
