I am 30 weeks and one of my friends called
me tonight to tell me that she has chicken
pox. I last saw her on new years eve. I
had chicken pox as a child but so did my
friend and I know a few people who have
had chicken pox more than once. What are
the risks to me and my baby?

Well, if you had it as a kid, I think it's
highly unlikely you'll have it again as an
adult. I've never heard of anyone getting
the chicken pox in adulthood after having
it as a kid. I myself have had chicken
pox twice, but they were both during
childhood.
I think you and your child are perfectly
fine - if you have not broken out into the
classic itchy sores, you have nothing to
lose sleep over. You say you saw your
friend on new year's eve, and the date of
your post is january 9th. You would have
definitely been itching yourself silly by
now.
But, if you are still very worried, it
never hurts to give your doctor a call and
just ask them. Might be more reassuring
to hear your doctor tell you you're fine
than a random internet junkie, but who
knows. :)

They told me in pregnancy it can be very
bad for the baby. I dont know if he
meant if I got it or not. So, def speak
to the Dr. I had almost 2 year old with
chicken pox, when I was pregnant with my
daughter.
I would stay away from your friend until
you find out.

Chicken pox can be dangerous for a women
carrying a baby in the 3rd trimester as
the baby can catch it through the mother.
If you had chicken pox as a child I am
sure you and baby will be fine as the
immunity that you made to fight the
chicken pox will be defending the baby
too. Chicken pox can take around 14 days
to come out in a rash so probably be best
to be checked just in case.
