Who Buys the Baby Stuff In Your House?? Posted: 01-10-06 18:11pm
Hi guys... I just have a quick question.
For those of you who have a significant
other. Who buys the babys stuff? I
mean like the diapers, butt cream, formula,
pay the sitter? I have been married for
2 years, and this baby is obvisously both
of ours. I have been buying everything
since he was born. I think hubby has
bought maybe one pack of diapers.
I have to go back to work soon, and I
will be the one who pays the babysitter.
I don't know what the going rate is, but
she charges $ 140 a week.
We both made this baby together, and I
feel that I am the one who is always
broke. Since going on maternity leave,
I have continued to contribute just as
much to our daily lifestyle ( bills, etc.
) plus paid and bought all baby nathans
things, with my income cut totally in
half!!! His income is not hurt at all,
he still has his money to himself, it is
like he doesn't have a child. He doesn't
have to sacrifice much!!
We have separate accounts. His money is
his, and mine is mine. We do discuss
big purchases together though, our s.U.V,
caddy, camping trailer etc.
I think he should atleast give me half of
the babysitters pay. What do you
think?? I feel like I am a single
mother, becasue financially...He's not
much help with him. We don't get much of
a family allowance cheque...Only $25 a
month. It was revised for 2006.
Sucks bad!!

I buy everything too. He figures because
I get the family allowance that I should
buy the stuff. Here in quebec we get 2
cheques (provincial and federal) I get
about 400$ a month between the 2. Ours
are higher here for some reason. Hubby
does what I tell him to with his money.
Bills, food, give it to me. Lol. I am
the family accountant and banker.
I think your hubby should either pay the
sitter or buy the baby supplies. Tell
him it is up to him which he wants.
Either way it'll be about the same cost.
I don't have an income so all the money
comes from my husband. I manage the
monthly bills. If brian held the
money..... We would be broke

I get baby bonus most of it is sufficient
for diaper/wipes a new outfit or shoes,
i'm the one who pays for daycare 700/month
plus food and then hubby pays rent bills
and groceries. So although we have two
different account everything is kinda
equal if I need money I get his card and
vice versa..
I think if you bf isnt helping that he
should pay half the cost of daycare cause
its not fair to you and it does take two
ppl to make a child.
Wish you luck!

Before my hubby and I completely joined
our accounts we used to have one account
in both our names and we both put a set
amount ($300 I think) in there each pay
day to pay for the bills, food etc etc.
It was a really good way to do it as you
still had your own money but no one was
paying for more than the other. Now both
pays go in to the same account and I try
and keep it out of his hands or we would
be broke lol!!

Hi there,
wow, I cannot imagine doing it that way..
Having separate bank accounts. My
husband and I have a joint account that
the money goes into from both of our jobs.
We both also have additional accounts
that we through money in fromtime to time
in case something comes up and we need it.
Anyways. I just cannot imagine ever
having to do it that way. Good luck, but
I think once you are married.. Its both
of your money.

I think the set amount it a great idea.
Or if he won't go for that... Get him to
pay 1/2 of everything.. Sitter, food,
diapers, wipes. Etc... Maybe then he
will realize how much you are actually
paying.. :)

this is how our house is and since I am
brian as well it goes the same. If I
handeled the money we would be livinv in
refrigerator boxes. I buy way too much, I
keep inventory sheets on our baby
consumables. (i am disabled and so my
home/baby/wife is my job) I know we have
over 5000 wipes in different brands, from
newborn types to scented regular ones,
1000+ playtex drop ins (4/8 oz.) 2x 16 oz.
A&d ountment tubs and 6 x 4oz tubes
a&d, 1 tube 4 oz balmex, 1 tube 4oz
desitin, 90 jars of baby food, 128 + 1bag
in use size 1/2 swadlers, 200 size 2
swaddlers, 128 size 3 crusiers, and well
over 30 bottles of different smell
lotions, shampoo/body wash and creams, 4
boxes of huggies disposeable
lavender/chamomielle wash cloths. 6 big
cans of isomil advanced, 4 big cans of
prosobee lipil, 4 big cans of regular
enfamil lipil given to us as samples but
we are staying with soy right now.
If it were up to me we would live in a
drug store so I could get diapers,
formula, drop ins, nursing bra pads, and
you can take it from there.
I have a sickness so I gave my debit card
to my wife and I get an allowence. Yes, I
am a guy and yes I am dangerous in the
store.

We've got separate accounts as it gets
really confusing when all bills and
earnings goes to one account, however we
share on paying bills etc. And I just
tell him if I need cash and vice
versa.Although when our lil one's born
he's gonna be the primary earner and
provider as ill prob stay with kids coz
its to dear to pay for a child minder and
nursery so its not worth me workin, not at
least for a year or so tho. Plus ill have
maternity allowance and child tax credit
though its too little its gonna help with
the basics.
If I want or need something and im skint I
just tell my hubby and he's alright with
it as long as I dont drag him to the mall
lol

I think it's way better if you just share
everything. I think it'd be more
confusing when the bills come in to figure
who used what and what goes where, etc.
I grew up with grandparents that had
separate accounts for everything. They
even bought separate groceries and all
that jazz, heaven forbid if one got into
the others ice cream...The crap hit the
fan then. Haha. I thought it was
disgusting watching them argue over
something as stupid as money. When it
comes to a baby, it took the two of you to
make it, it should take the two of you to
raise it, clothe it, feed it, etc.
That's just my personal opinion though.
I'm not trying to be rude or anything
either, but that's just how I think.
