Hello everyone. I'm sooo exhausted, i've only been getting 2-4 hours of sleep a night. I can't go to sleep - before I was soo tired and able to sleep really easily, but since the past week, I can't go to sleep. I was told it's b/c of all of the hormones in my system - but I can't function, think, drive.....Help me pleeeaaassseee! Did or does anyone have this problem too and what can I do to go to sleep! I'm ready to scream and cry! (i don't want to take any medications).

Thank you guys very much!!!!!

Extremely eHealthy
First off stay away from caffeine (coffee, pop(pepsi, coke, dr pepper and anything dark brown in color) chocolate, tea etc_.) I have not been sleeping well at all but have found other things that work besides meds heres a list
~sex
~bath (bubble bath with chamomile)
~sleepy time tea (loblaws sells it 2$) helps relax you takes about 30 mins though
~reading
~exercising during the day but dont do it 3 hrs before sleeping
~unwinding anyways you can

other sugestions (i didnt do these cause the others worked)
~dont eat 2-3 hours before bed (eat complete meals)
~herbal pills
~hot tub
~meditation
~yoga
~massage (can get expensive)

i hope this works, I already have one child and it was crazy I would be tired all day and awake at night, I know what it feels like btw how many weeks are you?? Talk to your dr if it gets worse you may end up needing meds

take care and best of luck!

All of those suggestions sound very good, but one I think and have heard is dangerous is the hot tub. I have read that it is not safe to get in a hot tub while pregnant because it can raise your body temperature too much.

I know you said you dont want to take any medication but if you get really desperate you might want to try benadryll. Even a half dose will help you sleep. It is safe during pregnancy and it has the same active ingredient as tylenol pm.

I had the same problem early in my pregnancy (when I was pregnant) I had the worst trouble sleeping! Even though I felt tired all the time. Warm milk and potatoes, mashed baked whatever both have natural enzymes that can help people sleep. And turkey. Just have yourself a thanksgiving dinner and go to bed! Ha ha ha

good luck gettin some zzz's.

Not Sleeping
I haven't been sleeping well, however my dr stated that I could take a normal dose of benadryl. Omg it works wonders. Puts me out like a light and I can get a few hours of sleep.

Thank You
Thank you everyone for your suggestions and letting me know i'm not alone on this one!!:) lol!

I always stay away from caffeine (i have lots of energy and normally it takes alot for me to sleep, so me and caffeine don't get along) - I did try the warm shower (i hate baths) and thanks for the tip of staying away from hot water - that didn't really work either, though it was very relaxing!

But, I finally found something that worked!!!! When I was younger I used to play the piano (classical) and that always helped me get tired and was soo relaxing! So now, I read school stuff (b/c i'm back in school), which gets me tired (but doesn't help me sleep), then I play the piano (keyboards, close enough), mozart, beethoven, etc... All those types of sonatos, and boooooommmm, before you know it! I'm can't keep my eyes open and my mind is sooo clear even if I wanted to think of something I can't b/c it's soo relaxed!

So, either play an instrument (classical) before you go to bed, or if you don't play an instrument, put some classical music on with your lights off, and I guarentee you'll be asleep before you know it! It even doesn't even matter when I get up at 3am or 6am to pee, I can' still fall right back to sleep now (i hope i'm not speaking too prematurely now), lol!!!

Thanks
Thank you! I hope that everyone is sleeping better now! I think that the insomnia might be an early 1st trimester thing. I think, I don't want to speak too prematurely, but i'm back to the being tired now, lol!!!! How about you guys?!?!?

Especially eHealthy
I just wanted to say that my doc told me to stay away from the sleepy time tea (which I must say I adore and it always worked like a charm) because of chamomile and the "potential" dangers to baby. She made it clear that the effects of chamomile are unknown so I should avoid it.

What I do when I can't sleep is I take a warm shower get my living room really really warm, drink warm ginger tea and read until I get sleepy. Don't know if that will help anyone else but it works for me.
