Tasted Hiv Positive Blood....how??
Posted: 01-11-06 21:08pm

Good morning! I'm currently a physiotherapist student. I'm very anxious nowadays because I have a problem. Few days back, I was dealing with a hiv positive patient, trying to exercise his burnt hand. His hand was full of blood. Then, I do not know by how, his blood went into my mouth. Later, I rinsed my mouth thoroughly. I'm very worried that i'll get aids through my mouth. Will i? And is it safe to touch his blood with my gloves on? Thank you for relieving my fear. Have a nice day.
P/s : please do reply although you think it's impossible to spread by that way, but your reply can change my day. Thanks alot!

Spread Thro Oral Contact
Posted: 01-12-06 06:29am

Dear student , get relieved. The spread though very uncommon through this way, is theoritically possible though

however, some facts show that 1) the virus is alive in the blood only for 45 seconds outiside the body, 2) spread through oral contacts with the infected person though possible is negligable. 3) since you say that you tasted the blood, it is possible to spread only if you have bleeding gums or a injury in the ourside or inside portions of the mouth though which the virus can enter the blood stream. 4) if you are unsure, and would like to consult for medical treatment, if you are still within the 72 hour period after the possible infection, you could consult your doctor for a prophylaxis treatment if necessary. Or get yourself relieved and go for a hiv antibody test after 3 months to get yourself relieved of the thoughts.

Good luck and god bless

I always tell people when they have to wait to get tested, or have to wait to get their results, just go out and do something you enjoy, and try to keep your mind off of it.

White Blood Cells

I fail to see how the number of white blood cells present should lower a risk of hiv transmission. It doesn't, since is the t-cell (a white blood cell) which hiv targets.

No

No, that's my point. Why are you discussing t-cell counts with regard to risk of hiv infection. It is not relevant. Hiv searches out a t-cell to infect. Why is the issue of boosting one's numbers relevant to his concern about hiv infection? I hope you realise that it doesn't matter how strong your immune system is, you are not safe from hiv infection.

Actually sorry to burst your bubble but the host immune status does have an affect on whether infection occurs or not.

Tasted Hiv Positive Blood....how??

Amber28, you are incorrect in your statement. It's the level of ones hiv particles in the blood that determines if one is able to be infected, not the strength of one immune system.

There are many factors that effect whether infection occurs or not, these include:
duration and frequency of contact
volume of fluid
virulance
concentration of organism and
host immune status

(taken directly from a pathophysiology book) unless they are incorrect then I beg to differ.

Discovery Channel

Discory channel is showing a programme on microkillers. Its amazing the detail they use in the graphic representations.

They show how the body reacts to virus' and foreign organisms. How the body's defence reacts etc.

This is worth catching...

I Am Living In Big Fear
Posted: 03-21-07 11:51am

Recently I was pulled over by a officer and he gave me ticket and a pen to sign the ticket with and I didnt look at the pen but now I am thinking what if something was on the pen or what if a needle was tape on the pen and I accidently poke my self with it and didn't know. See it was two white male officers in the car and they pulled me over for no reason anyways I am a black female and I think that's why they pulled me over, and now I am scared because all of these thoughts are now coming to my head of what if's it seems so unreal but I can't help it.
