TMJ Question
Posted: 01-13-06 10:40am

I am having a problem when I eat or talk alot. My lower lip & tongue become slack. It makes it impossible to keep my mouth shut while eating and also slurs my speech. I was diagnosed with TMJ about 20 years ago but never had this problem before. These symptoms came on about a month ago but have gotten worse within the last couple of weeks. Is this a symptom of my TMJ?

I don’t think that lip and tongue weakness are the result of TMJ (Temporo Mandibular Joint Syndrome) . It seems more likely that a neurological disorder is causing these symptoms (maybe n.facialis affection). You can visit a neurologist, an ENT-specialist ,as well as a dentist to check it out.
