Q: C-section Or Not???

Hi everyone-

this a little early because I am only about 9 weeks, but I am starting to think about delivery. I am a petite person (5'2") and my husband is 6'3" and we were both big babies. He was 10lbs and I was 9 lbs. Anyways, I guess I have two questions:

1. Will our baby be big if my husband and I were both big babies or does that not matter?

2. Can I schedule a c-section instead of delivering naturally?

I just cannot imagine squeeznig a 9lb baby out of my 5'2" frame!

Thanks for the advice and opinions!

Liz

Big Babies...
Big babies actually skip a generation in my family...So it is very likely that you will have a big baby or that your baby may have big babies..

The best thing to do is talk to your grandmother and see how big both you and your hubbies parents were. If you start to see a pattern than it will pretty much let you know how you will deliver.

Example. My mom was 11lbs and my fiance's mom was 10 - 11lbs. Fathers were large as well. We, on the other hand, along with his siblings, were average. His brother gave birth a couple of years ago and they had a 10lb little girl. We found a pattern and are anticipating a large child. At 21 weeks my baby came in at almose 2lbs on the ultrasound!!

Thanks for the reply...That makes sense what you said. Now since your baby will most likely be large, are you going to have a scheduled c-section?

I ahve never herd for big babies to run in anyones family. Everyones different and yet there are cases that may seem similar
your size has nothing to do most of the time with how ur delivery goes. I've herd of people smaller then you having no problem popping out a 9 pound baby. C- sections have become to popular nowadays and thats not good. The thing your doctor wont tell you is that if they do a c section on you they get paid alot more then if you give birth. C sections were made to have done in emergency situations. It's become alot easier for the doctor just to say lets do a c section tho and thats not right. You should try your hardest to do a vaginal birth and im sure everything will be fine
