Problems Maybe Related to Birth Control Posted: 01-13-06 23:25pm
I have been taking aviane as birth control
for exactly two months. It is the first
type of birth control that I have ever
been on. I take it for regulation of my
period as well as to prevent pregnancy.
Three days before my period was scheduled
to come this month the area right around
the opening of my vagina became extremely
itchy. I tried as best as I could to
keep my hands away and the itchiness went
away when I got my period. My period
ended last night however and today the
itchiness has once again returned. I
know my boyfriend does not have any stds
and I was tested when I began on my birth
control and came up negative, plus he is
the first and only man who I have been
sexually active with. We have also only
had unprotected sex one time, and not a
time close to the start of the itchiness.
I really have no idea what it is, but i'm
worried and don't know what to do about
it. If anyone has any ideas I would
really appreciate to hear back from you.
Thank you so much.

It could be a yeast infection. Have you
ever had one before? If not, it's
recommended that you go to the doctor to
make sure that's what it is before you
treat it, but once you've had one you can
usually recognize the signs. Do you have
any other symptoms?

No, i've never had one before, but it is
listed as one of the possible side affects
of the aviane. I looked for other
symptoms but really couldn't find any.
It does not seem inflamed or abnormally
red and I haven't noticed any odd
discharge. Do yeast infections not itch
with you have your period?

I'm sorry, i'm not sure about that. I
guess anything's possible. You might
want to see the doctor just to be sure
everything's okay. I hope you feel
better.
