Whose Last Name Will the Baby Take??

Im 18 and 6 months pregnant. I got
pregnant when I was 17. My boyfriend is
19 and will be 20 by the time the baby
comes. We have been together about a year
and a half.. It will be 2 years when our
son is a month old.. But since we are so
young and obviously not married theres
confusion about whose last name the baby
should have..His family thinks the last
name should be mason(after my bf) just cuz
thats the way they want it, they have no
reason behind it at all...My bf thinks its
last name should be his because he says we
are eventually are going to get married
and then we'd have to change the last name
when we did.. And me and my family think
it should be our last name because no
matter what I will always have that child
with me, no matter if we break up etc...
Geez im so confused! His family is just
greedy to make a long story short.. Not
him but his family, it makes me kinda
mad.. Why should it have there last
name?!
Sorry.. Basicly my question..
Whos last name is your baby going to have?

I gave my son my bf's last name cause I
don;t talk to my father (and haven't for
yrs and yrs) so I did not want to
continue my family name. Why don't you
guys just hypen it yourname-mason.
Lots of kids have last names like that
now.

Well my baby will have my families name
not his dads name who isn't involved at
all and never will be. I plan on changing
my own name in a year anyway so his will
get changed to what I change mine to.
Yup.

Im married but my daughter and child to be
will have their fathers name, like lil
said its extremely common to have both
last names, I took my husbands last name
at marriage although I had the choice not
to.
It takes two to have a child and I think
you guys need to consider it, it wont be
an easy task he will be taking care of
this child too and he can actually fight
it.
Wish you luck

My babys father's first daughter has his
last name. So since she is going to be in
my childs life and the father hasnt really
made up his mind yet i've choosen to not
make things difficult and give the baby
his last name. Because regaurdless that
is his child. My mind could change...Lol
but we'll actually see when the baby is
here

My twins are going to get my last name.
My ex made it very clear that he doesn't
want anything to do with me or our
children. So scr3w him, i'm not going to
have his name as a constant reminder of
how irresponsible he was with something
that is half his responsibility - my
pregnancy.
But, it all depends on how you feel. I
also think that maybe a hyphonated last
anme would be good if you can't decide.

I no this was like 16 years ago but when I
was 2 my parents werent married and fought
all the time and my dad would always tell
my mom he was gunna take me and shed never
see me again etc. So one night he did and
then when my mom finally was able to tell
the cops (he cut the phone wires and
slashed her tires psycho) they said they
couldnt do anything cuz I was his kid and
had his last name so long story short it
took 3 days and an expensive lawyer but I
grew up w/ my mom and she had my name
changed back to her last name

married, give the baby ur last name.
Gives u all the rights.

My baby will have my last name. Even
though the father is going to be apart of
the baby's life we're no longer together
and even when we were we agreed that it
would have my last name just because its a
lot easier this way.

I chose for my baby to have my lastname.
My boyfriend (ex now) didn't like it. I
told him too bad. Things were rocky
between us, but even if they were perfect
I still would have chosen to have the baby
have my name. If I got married to him
later then I would change the babies name
(no problem)...Now that things worked out
not as I had planned I am happy I chose to
do that. This is your baby and you are
sole gaurdian for this child, and you two
should have the same name. If and when
you do marry the father, then changing the
name is very easy. But just incase down
the line something happens to you guys you
will find it very very very hard to have
the same name as your child (in order to
change it back to your name, he'd have to
sign papers...And he most likely wouldn't
do that). Just my opinion, but do what
you feel is right to you. I personally
think you and your family are on the right
track.

I would personaly put it into my
boyfriends name.. But it dosnt really
matter, ever one has differnt oppitions.
Though I would really understand if he
wasnt going to be in the babies life that
you would have your last name. But some
of you made good points about him having
more rights if the baby had his last name.
I guess it all depends on your
relationship with the father

Why not give to baby both last names?
That way if something was to ever hadppen
and you and your bf broke up (which I hope
never happens and you stay happy for ever)
the baby will have both your last name and
his. I have been told its easyer to drop
a last name then add one. So if you were
to marry him and change your name you it
may be easyer just to change it from your
baby having both names to just his.
