Creatine Help???
Posted: 01-15-06 22:08pm

Hi, my boyfriend wants to start taking creatine monohydrate, because he plays baseball. He's researched it, but he wants my opinion, in case I don't want him taking it. I've researched, but there isn't any longterm info. Does anyone take it, or know anything about it? Is it okay for him to take, or should he stay away? Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, it is perfectly fine for him to take. Creatine is a natural substance that is found in many foods such as steak. There are many benefits from creatine, and they're noticable.. Hence it's popularity.

There are a few things though. Since creatine does lend itself to water retention, he should increase his fluid intake. If he doesn't, he may suffer from muscle cramps---not good if he's playing baseball. Another way to subside the muscle cramps is to increase his potassium intake. (eat a banana a day!). Make sure he drinks it with grape juice or some type of non-acidic juice high in simple sugars.

Creatine Help???

Creatine is perfectly safe....If you buy the right kind. Make sure that you know and trust the brand that you buy from. It is worth the few extra bucks to go for a popular brand. This ensures the quality of the product.
Because the fda does not have any requirements or standards for the companies to hold to while making creatine, some companies will cut corners and cheap out on raw materials and compromise quality to save $$.
When quality is compromised, much of the time the potency (absorption ability of the creatine to the muscles) is lowered, and the creatine that is not absorbed is turned into a harmful toxin called creatinine. While the long term side affects are not fully understood, they do know that it can have non-reversable damage done to the liver.
So, if you didn't catch it the first time.... Go for brands that you have heard of to ensure quality. One brand that I strongly recommend is *cellucor m5* (great stuff) or if you do not agree, try www.Bodybuilding.Com or other reputable sources.
Hope I helped, I tried to make it as simple as possible. Good luck with your lifting :)
