I can't believe they don't have a solution for this yet. I have this too. I have always farted a lot since I was little and everyone wondered why. I just never burped. There have been very few times I've burped in my life and those times I did I felt like i was about to vomit, sometimes i do vomit and a huge burp comes.
I notice that when a burp does come to my throat that i kinda like breath in while partially closing my through(it makes this raspy like hiccup noise) and the burp then retracts back down. Sometimes i get these burps that come up very very slowly and almost silent, but i have to like bring my neck in close to me and tilt my head down as if to prevent it from coming up whatever it is. Its very uncomfortable and weird looking. I do get the tense feeling too from it. When i do try to burp, i gag horribly and feel like throwing up. There have been times when i felt so filled with gas that i try to throw it up and it just won't come and i'll just tear up from trying. It sucks. I'm gonna look into a natropath and see if i can get the problem solved.

I notice that when I sneeze when i feel that i have gas that my sneeze almost hurts because i swear i burp at the same time, but its too hard to tell.

I just tried to burp and gagged twice. it feels the more i try the more im about to vomit. Tears are coming from my eyes just from trying to burp. im gagging but no air is still coming.

Add me to the growing list of people who can't burp. I get the exact same thing. Gurgling, bloating, pain, difficulty breathing, etc. I'm 29. It's been this way as long as I can remember. I sure would like an explanation, but even moreso, a cure. My older sister has the same issue. My stomach also makes crazy noise pretty regularly. Similar. Just a shot in the dark question, but does anyone else's jaw/throat muscles get painfully fatigued fatigued commonly (maybe after yelling at a concert, singing, eating beef jerky, etc.)?

I've got the same problem as well. It's unfortunately gotten to the point where I'm considering giving up beer entirely. It's simply not worth the constant discomfort every night out. I have to make quite a few trips to the bathroom and the gagged burps are so terrible sounding that I insist on waiting until no one else in the bathroom (which often creates a pretty awkward situation). Even then, I don't always feel satisfied afterwards. I, of course, get the gurgles as well, but usually only after eating.

Even though there have been a number of responses here, I don't quite know how common this problem is. I've only known one other individual personally with the same issue. I brought it up with my doctor and he dismissed it out of hand. Since there seem to be no other ill consequences, it likely hasn't called for much medical study. It looks like we're all doomed to gagging ourselves or giving up carbonated drinks entirely.

I can't seem to gag myself into letting it out. Most seem to be able to. I've tried only a handful of times.

What Do You Do For the Pain of Not Burping?
Posted: 12-14-07 18:29pm

Oh my gosh...I've had this problem for 25 years...I thought I was crazy. I can deal with my gurgling noises...I can't deal with the pain. My chest feels so tight and my stomach bloats. I have been on acid reflux medicine, and now I've even tried Gas X. I made the mistake of looking this up on line, and before I found this forum I was convinced I had some rare cancer.
Please share...I actually got the hiccups last night...that's rare for me, but I felt so much better after. I hate throwing up more than anything in the world. Do you just put a finger down your throat until you feel like you are going to vomit? Has anyone found anykind of medication that works?

I'm exactly the same as the rest of you, and find it particularly difficult to live with at work. I literally schedule all my meetings in the morning, or in a loud place in the afternoon, because my gurgly noises are out of control after lunch. I also can't eat salads at work, because that triggers the gurgly noises something terrible. It's so embarassing. I've noticed one thing that helps, though - having really loose pants. I don't have any pants that I would call tight, but whenever I wear jeans (or something else where the fabric doesn't give easily) I have a worse day than others.

wow, i am so relieved to find this message board. i've lived with the same condition for as long as i can remember. i'm 21 now and if i had to put a timeline on it i'd say it's been 10 years i've suffered with this bizarre condition. i've had every test under the sun taken on my stomach/esophagus/intestines and tried every medication ever, but to no avail. doctors seem to not believe me when i describe my symptoms and my pain because the tests show up negative. i too schedule my life around eating, for instance, i'm a college student and won't schedule a class after lunch because it's sheer embarassment to sit in class and sound like a lawnmower. always bloated, never throw up, never burp, tried liquid diets, exercise daily and am a content person so i don't think it's stress related. the main stressor in my life is this condition and how nervous it makes me/how painful it is. i sleep on my left side at night; it positions the esophagus over the stomach so stomach contents don't flow as easily into the esophagus and eases the pain. somebody give us an answer quick!

Yeah, I unfortunately have the same problem, and my older sister does as well. The two possibilities I've seen online have been Shatzki's Ring and achalasia, which my cousin has, yet I saw today that it doesn't run in families.

Wow! I never knew that there were this many people who could relate to my same issues. It affects me everytime I decide to go out with my friends. I have to plan what I'll drink or how much and I still end up in the bathroom making those nasty pre-vomit burps to relieve the bloating and pain. It makes me absolutely miserable and all I want to do is go home. Happened to me just this New Year's Eve! I can't burp, I get bloated, there's no way to relieve the pressure except to let it go away naturally unless you do get one of those nasty sounding burps out that embarrasses you if there's anyone else in the restroom to hear it. I'm going to bring this to my doctor's attention, but I'd love to hear if anyone's found out what it is that causes this or what to do to cure it! Keep me posted!

i have the same problem, and my older sister does too. Ive been told to see a digestive specialist. I told my doctor about the symptoms and he dismissed it as well. Its embarrising as well, i did not know that this was common. Although My older sister and I dont suffer any pain from it. WE cant burp, we make those werid gurggling noises all the time, even when we dont drink pop. Our stomach bloats like crazy where we look pregnant, its soooo embarrrising b/c we look fat. I also have to stick my finger down my throat to "burp" but it makes a loud burp/barf sound, but i dont puke which is embarrising b/c i have to do it in an area where no one can hear me. Its so bad when you have a bf and after u eat ur making those werid turn off noises. I just hope i dont start suffering pain like some of u guys. Once i get an appointment with a digestive specialist, and if anything works, i'll post it up.

It's after 1AM where I am and I have to be up at 6:30AM. I can't sleep because of this!! It is going to put me in the crazy house!!!

I can burp but my burps are VERY restrictive ... almost violent. They make this terrible sound that I cannot even describe. I burp over 100 of these a day and I have been having this daily for about 6 weeks now. It also creates a severe tightness in my chest which causes my heart rate to speed up. As soon as I force one of these weird burps out, everything settles down for a few minutes until the tightness starts again!! My diet is almost flawless and it doesnt matter what i eat i ALWAYS get these ...

I often have a burning pain in my throat when these burps come out and sometimes little food chunks will come up as well.

I have tried everything from Gaviscon (never works) to Pepcid (used to work now it has almost completely stopped working) and I cannot find any relief. I am on my way to the doc tomorrow to try and figure this out. I have a friend who has a medical background and they think it sounds like an ulcer in my esophagus??

Anyways if there is anyone else out there who has these painful crazy sounding burps, please get in touch with me. I would love to find a way to fix this naturally.

Never thought I'd come across so many people that have the same problem! Mine must be alteast over a year-2 years going on. I've never always been that gassy but for the past couple of years, I have. Gassy is sooo embarassing. Little bit at a time, I got worse. Air felt like it was trapped inside of my stomach, it hurts. If I dont force the air out with a burp, I can usually take a rolaid and Im ok, but over the course the rolaids work less and less. Sometimes if I push on my stomach a few times kind of hard and fast, I can push a burp out. Other times i Have to physically take in a load of air and push it all out hoping it'll make me feel better, sometimes having to do this over and over until it's ALL out, sometimes this makes it much much worse. I was never a bad burper, I could always make myself burp and always NEEDED to burp after a meal to not feel sick and bloated. I stopped drinking pop, for awhile, thinking that waS the cause, but it was not. I started up with the pop again and this actually helps me I think, to get some carbonation in there and help me burp. Lately, if I eat too fast, I get sharp shooting pains. If I dont eat, I Get sharp shooting pains, I drank a rootbeer and I got HORRIBLE chest pains, instantly. Now I get heartburn as well out of nowhere sometimes. I get all of these symptoms and my family thinks Im just making it seem alot worse than it is. they dont understand! Im bloated, in pain, and embarassed to tell anyone besides my family my problems. I cant go out sometimes because I feel so shitty and I get so gassy and I need to burp sometimes! Helppp

I have the same thing!!! I am 29 and I have had it for about 5 years now. I have never really been a burper - I can't make myself burp and usually the only time I do is if it sneaks out (mostly while yawning, stretching or vomiting) and it hurts sometimes!

I thought it was soda but I get it when I drink other liquids too so I am not sure the cause of it. I have tried cutting things out, one at a time or a bunch at once, and nothing seems to help. I too also went to the doctor and asked about it and was also told it was just that I take in air when I eat - well hello sherlock - we all do. It is embarassing, I refer to it as "calling dinosaurs" because sometimes it is SO loud and I can't stop it. It just has to come out. It usually lasts anywhere between a half hour sometimes up to 4 hours before I feel any relief. I feel bloated, like everything is just sitting in my stomach and it won't go anywhere. Most of the time I can feel the bubble coming so I try to push it out if I am at home or in a place where no one is around - this seems to push out more than if it you let it come out on it's own and this seems to help but it sounds terrible when it happens.

I have never met anyone else who had this condition so I am glad I am not the only one! Smile

If anyone does get a real answer from their doctor I would love to know what they say it is but it just doesn't seem to be anything that doctors are too concerned with. I hate it, it's socially crippling. You can't go out in public after eating because its so loud everyone can hear it. It concerns me because it is so loud but I don't get it all the time but usually after eating and mostly at work which is even worse

I have tried a few things, right now Gas-X seems to help a little. I take it after it starts and it goes away quicker or I chew mint gum - it is supposed to supress the acid in your stomach and it seems to help a little but lately not so much anymore.

It is very embarassing, it makes me feel very uncomfortable and I want it to go away. I am getting married in September and the last thing I want to do is gurgle while I am thanking my guests for coming. I know it sounds silly but I am almost afraid to eat or drink anything that day!
If anyone finds anything out, please share - I will be forever grateful!

I've had this problem my entire life but it wasn't as bad as the bacteria I had living in my stomach for over 10 years till they cured it in my late 20's.
I've noticed the older I get the worse the gas problems are. ( ie almost impossible to drink beer now and have to stop at 2-5 ) I also have to stick a finger or two down my throat in order to relieve the gas buildup. When I do this its a violent sharp push of gas as if something was actually blocking it from escaping. I've also noticed as have others that its most predominate during the late hours. ... anyways its just nice to know other people have the same problems that I've faced my whole life.

but man can I fart.

I have the same issue (obviously, if i'm posting here right?) The thing is, however, I NEVER made the connection between the bloating and the lack of burping. I have never burped, like all of you, and just figured it had something to do with my mild food allergies. (My nose runs when I eat anything that causes the simple glucose breakdown that eventually gives you blood sugar). So I never thought that my sad lack of ability to burp the alphabet, or, anything for that matter, might be something negative. My bloating, however, IS negative but, I just figured that had something to do with something I ate all the time. I've changed my diet significantly to mostly unprocessed organic foods within the last year and, believe it or not, the bloating seems to be worse than ever. I pas gass the other way allll of the time too. It seems to help when I'm super bloated to move around a bit and get the gas flowin'. It wouldn't really suck as much, though, if it were only like once every few months. We're talking every other day here.

oi.

Thanks for the insight. I think I'll continue to look into this more. Weird that nobody has found what the problem is, no?
hmm.

My 9 years daughter has the same problem. She is constantly bloated with stomach pain. She is doesn't burp. I gave her some ginger ale a minute ago and it helped. I am so worried about her. I thought she was the only one, but I am glad to know that there are others out there. Hopefully doctor might someday find a cure for this.

anyone who cant burp also have hunger pains and lot of gurgling?
Posted: 02-07-08 00:26am

Like someone said in a previous post, I too have only burped about 3 times in my whole life, I am 23. I can only burp right before I throw up which I never do anyway, or strangely if I have hiccups and am laughing really hard I sometimes randomly burp like a normal person but besides that all I can do is consistently gurgle or make "frog or dinosaur sounds" as my friends say. No one else seemed to mention this but in addition to annoying burps that do not give any relief, I get these horrible hunger pains in my sternum a few times a day which my gastro and doctors have yet to figure out. It's been determined to not be an ulcer, a hiatal hernia, acid reflux, gallbladder problem, or gluten allergy. Does anyone else who cannot burp have these hunger pains that feel like you have not eaten even if you ate not that long before???

Weird Bump under rib cage....
Posted: 02-10-08 03:26am

I know this is a random question, but for some reason I feel like this might be something that could be really hidden and relevant. When you lye down, and feel from the middle of your rib cage, following along the bottom of it, about two finger widths to the right, this sort of bump that you can move and push in and out, and if you do it a few times, it relieves something in your stomach, that helps you to breath the right way again......

Me neither
Posted: 02-12-08 03:41am

put me in the "hardly ever" burp camp.

I also have jaw problems (twice in my life I was unable to open my mouth at all)

And the gurgle noises...constantly.

And the bloating.

And the two finger-super violent after beer burp. (I cannot do this If I've had food...obvious reasons)

And the hiccups. Really violent ones that actually hurt. These only go away if I do the two finger thing.

And the gas out the other end.

Gas-x doesn't do anything, either.

I am really glad to hear there are others out there with this weird thing, at least.

I have the same problem as everybody else. My stomach gets really bloated, to the point where i can't take it any more. I usually end up going to the bathroom and attempt to make myself gag it up. This usually helps for a little while, but then my stomache fill back up. i really hate it when i have to use a public restroom to get rid of the pressure. I usually need to wait until the bathroom is empty. I take aciphex for heart burn, and i found that it also helps my stomach problems and i hardly get stomach aches if i take it regularly.
