Brandee,
that pressure is just an unfortunate symptom of tmj. If it's just pressure, be thankful, because it can also be painful like a migraine. If it really bothers you, a muscle relaxant might work, but i'm only guessing. Massage is another possible treatment.

I have it...Around the temple area and above, and I was just diagnosed by an ent with the condition.

Also agree with the previous poster than said ear claeing has not abated the problem.

Question for you guys though. I have extreme taste bud overload in the affected side of my mouth. When I first eat or drink something and it hits that area, it is almost unbearable. Anybody experience this?

Thanks, mj

Wow, that's a new one on me. I've always had a very sensitive tongue and sometimes have to use orajel or numzit or something like that. What did the ent say about your tongue? My sensitivity is from rubbing against teeth (small mouth, big teeth, normal sized tongue), bite splints and everything else and just got sore too easily. I wish I could help you. :(

Thanks anyway carol.....If you were responding to me.

I am certain that his diagnosis of tmj is accurate, I fit all of the signs and symptoms and I am sore all on that side with a history of grinding, chewing ice, etc. (bad habit I better quit now for sure!).

To be honest though, this (for lack of a better phrase) sensory overload of what I assume to be taste buds deep in my mouth to the right where the "tmj" is allegedly affecting my jaw on the outside is simply getting unbearable....I can deal with the soreness and headaches, but this almost makes all eating and drinking an exercise in futility because I am getting to where I don't want to because of the pain.

Ugggghhhhh!!!

Anyway, thanks again.

Hi mike,,,its strange that youve mention the taste bud overload, ive noticed my problem before I was diagnosed with tmj. My tongue could not handle anything. I found that deep in the back /side of my tongue there were these small lumps, I was worried and had them checked, they told me it was normal and not to worry, so I figured that it had to be something that made my buds react in a manner that was frightning and very uncomfortable. I started examining what I was putting in my mouth the mouthwash I was using was to strong, then it was my toothpaste, then the food I was eating, then what I was drinking....It was along process but I my buds are getting use to the change. I dilute and eliminate things. Its funny how tmj can cause so many different problems. Hope you solve yours.
