My step-dad a few years ago was taken into
hospital complaining of pains all over
when touched. It hurt him to move in any
way even touching him as gently as you
could.
When the hospital failed to diagnose what
was going on specialists were called in
and even they failed to diagnose anything.
After about a year of being poked and
prodded he eventually died.
We were eventually told that his intestine
had died - what the hell is this and what
could have caused it? Was the hospital
at fault for not diagnosing this whatever
it was?
I'm in the uk.

If anyone out there has any info on this
please reply. I have a friend who is
being told intestines are dieing. She
has had 12 surgeries to have sections of
intestines removed. No one has any
answers.

I know that ibd can cause that to happen.
Even tho you usually dont die from it.
What happens is that the
inflamation/infection stops the intestine
from getting oxygen and that part of the
intestine dies. Operations where part of
the intestine is removed is done when this
happens.

I had a second surgery because the surgeon
"forgot" to put back the small intestine
after removing the gallbladder (it
happened to slip out a bit when he removed
the bladder through a small hole below my
belly button).
When I came back in again, throwing up
dark green bile, the new surgeon said that
it was possible that the intestine was
beginning to die due to being glued to the
surgery wound, because it would lack blood
circulation from being folded.
Luckely, it all went well and my intestine
survived.
This is medical malpractice and it sounds
as if that goes for your dad as well. I
might add that I am in the uk as well and
I am suing nhs for this mistake. It's
been a nightmare and I won't let them get
away with it.

My cousin has a weird form of Crohn's
disease and every couple of years he has
to go in for surgery because different
parts of his intestines are dying. They
end up having to take the dying part out
and sew the remaining sides together.
Could it possibly be anything like that?
