I am a 17 year old female in need of answers. I am currently on the depo shot. I've wanted to get off but my mom is against it. I am due for my next shot next month. I want to know, if I get off this shot and get pregnant will the shot have any effects on my baby? I just read n this article that something stays in your system for 18 months!!! Then because of this you have miscarriages.. Please... Will this shot harm my child??

It takes a long time to get pregnant when you've been on the depo, i'm not sure how long it takes but the doctor insists if you want to have a child you get off the shot a year before time.

Ok im 17 too I got on the shot when I was 15. Omg never again my last shot I was due for it in febuary of 05 and I didnt get it. I got pregnant in september of 05 so only about 6 months after getting off the depo. I ahvent had any problems with my pregnancy but my doctor who I ahve now even told me that the depo vera is an awful birth control. It can cause deformations and even death in your baby because it is possible that even after getting off the depo can stay in your system for 3 to 31 months. I have been very lucky so far. No signs of abdormalities or anything.
I do know that it's possible to get pregnant while the depo is still in your system because the sister of my childs father was on the depo for 3 years after she had her first daughter. She started something like a period which was strange because she hadnt had a period for 3 yrs. We thought it would eventually stop just like a regular period but the bleeding got heavier and she started getting really bad cramps and pain that presisted for about 2 weeks. She took a home pregnancy test that came back posotive but we thought maybe it was just a faulty test.
Then we finally got settled and went to a hospital and they ran a regular urine sample pregnancy test which came back posotive and 2 blood test one being posotive and the other negative. They scheduled her for a sonogram the next day so we went. When they did the u/s they told her that there had been a fetus and that she had been passing it and she had misscarried at about 5 to 6 weeks. They asked her if she had taken anything and she brought up being on the depo. The docotr there even said that's most likely what happend and why the fetus didnt make it. It's really sad and I think its a hrrible form of birth control and should be taken off the market. There are alot of risk that go along with taking the depo shot.

I started the shot when I was 15 and 2003 I got preggers while on the shot. I wasn't late on getting the shot ever. After 3 years of sex with my husband (no methods other than the shot) I got preggers. My little one was growing nicely....There seemed to be no effects on him....However I got preeclamsia and lost him. So no I don't think that it will have any effects on a little scoot.

I wouldn't worry about it. I was told that it could cause me to miscarry...It didn't. Not even close.

i started the depo shot last january & it gave me EXTREME cramps so i stopped it in september of last year, the doctor said that i should start my period between january and april of this year but all ive been doing is spotting... im having all the symptoms of pregnancy starting in january but i figured it was the shot wearing off but when i went to the doctor in february they thought i was pregnant but the test was negitive. i did another one a month later because i had yet to have my period n it also came back negitive but my spymtoms have only gotten worse. every one around me keeps asking me if im pregnant because im starting to get a slight belly? whats the deal? can the depo shot still slightly be in my system and cause the test to be wrong? im worried about this becuase my best friend did 6 test & she didnt find out till her 4th month of her pregnancy (she also wasnt on the shot either)

in 2003 i was on the depo shot for about 6 months..i HATED it!! i never had a period while i was on it, which was kinda nice, but at the same time i wish i would of. once i got off of the shot it took a couple months for it to kick back in..and i too was having pregnancy symptoms..i had tooken a few at home test and also a few blood test..everything said nev. but i was convienced i was pregnant! i had just went thru a miscarrage right before getting on the shot..so i was familar with the symptoms and everyone around me had also thought the same thing..unfortunatly...it was the shot still messing with my body trying to get back into its normal cycle..boy did i feel stupid after that..i was tryin to get pregnant after that!! and "THREE" years later i finally got pregnant with my son who is now 2!! im not saying this is whats going on with you...i just thought id share my story!!
