Anal Bleeding
Posted: 01-20-06 13:33pm

Thanks for reading... I have bleeding from my anus that started a couple of months ago. It started with bright red blood coming out when I went to the bathroom. However, over time it seems to have gotten worse. Now, I will feel the urge to go to the bathroom and only blood comes out. It comes out like water and leaks out of the anus and pools into the toilet. I still bleed when I go to the bathroom, but I am concerned because the blood has gotten darker (more of a maroon color and sometimes even browish) and because I will go to the bathroom to release only blood. I'm not sure this is normal for a hemmaroid. Also, when I do go, I am very gassy and it's almost like an explosion of blood (it ends up all over the inside of the toilet). I have not found anything like this on the internet. I also do not have medical insurance because I am a full time student. Should I go to the hospital? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Uh yeah, i'd go to a hospital, I would have gone months ago! You're bleeding explosively out of your anus, that sound pretty bad!

Get to a hospital immediately. It sounds like you have gastro-intestinal bleed, which can be very bad. Especially since you've had it for so long. It isn't a good sign.

I should add that I have not had any black or tarry stools. I also have not had a loss of appetite. The reason the blood comes out like it is "exploding" sometimes is because I have gas coming out at the same time as the blood, so it comes out more forced. I also have had no itching, but sometimes a painful feeling higher up than near the opening. Considering this new information, do you think this could be a hemmroid that is higher up than an extrnal hemmroid, or something mroe serious? Because I do not have the money to pay for doctors bills, I was thinking of trying some hemmroid suppositories and fiber pills. What do you think?

If it is an internal hemorrhoid it will not necessarily itch. You may however have some rectal discomfort when you sit for long periods or occasional pain when you sit in different positions.

Normally bleeding internal hemorrhoids have additional sensations associated with them

for instance when you empty your bowel you may feel as if something is being pushed aside as the waste exits the body. Or you may also feel something is being retracted back up after a bowel movement.

A course of suppositories or hemorrhoid cream using the applicator should bring relief if the problem is hemorrhoid related.

A generous amount of cream inserted into the rectum before a bowel movement will act as a lubricant and give you an indicator if you experience less discomfort.

Thanks, that helps. I do have discomfort when I go to the bathroom. I feel like there is pressure coming from higher up (not by the opening). I have often felt like it is being pushed to the left side. Yes, I have had a lot of pain when I sit for long periods ... Especially when I sit for hours in the hard chairs at school. I have always had ibs problems but have tried to ignore them. I guess they have caught up with me. Since I have had such bad ibs problems in the past (i am used to only going to the bathroom once a week), I am leaning in favor of it being an internal hemmroid. This was probably the result of straining to go to the bathroom throughout the week. I will purchase the suppositories and fiber pills and take them for a week. If I see no improvement, I will see a doctor. Let me know if you think this is a bad idea. Otherwise, thanks for your help.

Ibs suffers often have problems with internal hemorrhoids so this increase the likelyhood of your current issue being hemorrhoid related.

Until internal hemorrhoids become thrombosed many people do not even realise the have a hemorrhoid problem.

Over the counter treatments can help, but as you no doubt realise diet is also very important.

1. Try and consume fiber rich vegi's and fruit daily
2. Drink at least 4 to 6 good sized glasses of water a day
3. Make sure you chew your food very well before swallowing
4. At least for time being avoid heavy foods like red meat
5. Try not to sit for long periods of time, this will most definitely cause problems.
6. Use the over the counter cream as an internal lubricate just before and after a bowel movement
7. When you go to the toliet for a bowel movement, remove one leg from your underwear and sit with your feet apart

Thanks mike. That helps. For some reason, I ate a lot of vegetables the day before yesterday and I noticed that it wasn't as bad yesterday. Do you think this was a coincidence or would there really be a difference that quickly?

Doing Better

I would like to update my story on this matter. I recently talked this over with a doctor and they determined that I got into a habit of pushing when I went to the bathroom all of the time and I did not realize it. It was similar to not itching a scratch at first, but I forced myself to not go to the bathroom just because my bottom was uncomfortable. The internal hemmroid was making me feel like I needed to go when I didn't because of the swelling. So, if anyone has this kind of problem in the future, the key to healing is not not push. Only relax. Thanks for everyone's help.
