My boyfriend who means the world to me
recently told me that when he was 15 (4
years ago) his doctor told him that he has
a very big chance of developing leukemia
and not being able to live past 25.
He went in to the doctor last thursday to
see if he has it. He has not had health
insurance for a long time, and can't
afford treatment.( his uncle is paying for
the recent appointment). But he seems
fine to me, and barely has any leukemia
symtpoms.
How did that work out? I read that if a
person has leukemia and it goes untreated,
that person could die within months and
its been almost a year, maybe two since he
has had treatment.
I'm so confused..Is this normal? Also,
tonight he developed a fever and has been
throwing up and his face is numb.
He said that he thinks it has to do with
his possible sickness. He told me that
that is how his friend who had cancer
died, he just kind of faded away.
Does that happen with people who have
leukemia??? Or is this maybe some kind
of weird cry for sympathy :?:

what kind of illness did your boyfriend
have at age 15? Did he ever have a form
of leukemia? I know of no doctor who
would tell someone they can come down with
leukemia 10 years in advance. No one
could predict this so where did he get his
information?
Find out if he has had problems with his
white blood cell counts in the last few
years. Also, did he have problems with
anemia or any problems with his red blood
cells or platelets?
Vomitting and fever are symptoms of a lot
of other things, like flu, etc.
His friend who had cancer just didn't
"fade away."
it sounds like your bf is playing some
kind of sick joke on you and it's not
really funny because leukemia is a very
serious illness. It isn't always a death
sentence.
Most important things are to find out his
wbc and rbc counts currently and in the
last couple of years. Find out what
childhood illnesses he's had, especially
when he claims the doctor said something
to him at age 15.

Yea he's told me that he has it and that
his prior visit was to see if it went
away, or whatever. He says he is on some
kind of pills for it- I guess his
healthcare ended in september, not a year
or two ago like I thought. Thats when he
got those pills and I guess he still has
about a week left to take them. He got
that ten year in advance info from some
doctor he went to with his mom. I dont
know about the blood cell counts but he
hasn't had anemia- I would have known this
he always talks about something hurting or
being sick with something. About the
vomitting and what not, it didn't sound
like it had to do with leukemia either,
but I don't know much about it, and that's
what he told me he though it was...I kind
of sometinmes think its a "joke" too, but
he seems to know lots of facts about
it...Maybe he just researched it or
something. Also, his mom has told me he
has a high chance of deceloping it..I dont
really know why..She mentioned something
about when he was being born, he was born
on the street or something, and something
went wrong and thats why he may get
it..That didn't make much sense to me..I
pray this is some kind of twisted humor
but sometimes it seems unlikely that his
mom would be in on it too.I dont
know..Thanks for responding so quickly..!
Yea i'll find out what he's had as a kid
and post it.
Thank you!

i never heard of a story like yours
before. Something just doesn't add up.
It is possible he can have cml or cll (a
leukemia) like the actor ryan o'neal of
"love story" has had for many years and
takes pills (gleevsec). Ask your
boyfriend the name of the pill. If it's
gleevesec, then he is correct about his
condition because he wouldn't know about
this pill if he were healthy.
Chronic leukemia can be lived with for
many years while acute leukemia needs to
be treated immediately.
Being born on the street has nothing to do
with leukemia. Find out more. Ask for
copies of his blood tests. Normal wbc
should be between 4,600-10,000. If he
has like 20,000, he has leukemia or a
severe infection of some sort.

tests, alot of it doesn't seem to add up
to me too..Once again thank you!

Hello there... I was diagnosed with
chronic m. Leukemia this year in
january. I am on gleevec every day.
If your bf is being honest and he is on
gleevec, he really needs to stay on it or
it could become worse and more resistant
to treatment. Gleevec is really
expensive ($100.00 a pill) but sometimes
you can get help from the drug companies
or check with the leukemia society.
There is help out there but he needs to
seek it and now! With some leukemias you
have no symptoms. The different kinds
have different prognosis. It is not a
death sentence if you get treatment. I
am a rn and had no symptoms other than
being exhausted all the time. They found
mine during a routine blood test that
showed my white blood cells skyrocketed.
Leukemia does not have anything to do
with how you are born or raised. Its a
chromosone disorder which they do not know
what causes it. Try to pin him down
for some answers. If he is lying then
you need to know. That would be very
very sick and he better think about what
he is doing. Take it from someone whose
life has been turned upside down from this
disease. Take care and god bless!
