Question: I have just done a home test for
chlamydia and it was positive, ive been
with my partner for nearly four years and
there is every chance either of us bought
it to the relationship, which means I could
have had this for a number of years but as
I suffered from irreguler periods ever
since I started them I have not noticed
any symptoms. But over the past 4 months
ive had mild abdominal pain, and always
had slight pain during intercourse. After 3
months of me and my partner being together
I fell pregnant but had a termination.Now
I have chlamydia and could of had it for a
number of years.Im extremeley upset and
worried that I am infertile.I have been
doing ovulation tests and have ovulated
but do you still ovulate when your
infertile.I am at the gum clinic
tomorrow.Should I take it as a good sign
that im ovulating still.Im so worried that
having chlamydia for such along time will
have done so much damage to my body. But do
infertile women ovulate? And when I had my
termination they took blood samples from
me would they have tested me for any other
stis back then.

well abortion causes people to become
infertile..Im not sure if having this
disease for a long amount of time would
have caused any problems other than you
tranferring it to others..But in your case
you have only been with you b/f umm I
think you should talk with your doc about
this...Im sure he/she could tell you about
the ovulating/infertile deal..Because I
have never really had or heard of this
problem..

Im at the doctors today,i do think that my
boyfriend gave it me as he said his
previous girlfriend had a test and was
positive and when he went for his test he
was told not to go to the toilet for 5
hours before but he told me he forgot and
kept going as normal so this could be the
reason he had a negative test back
then(but obviously it could of been me
still). As I realise its not just something
you get bcos you sleep around as ive only
been with 3 people.Cant wait to get seen
today both me and my partner are going
together so hopefully we will get sorted.I
did a bit of research last night and I
think itsa good sign that im ovulating as
the egg travels down the fallopian tube to
the utereus, which would mean mytubes arnt
blocked.
But I cant be 100% of that,i will ask my
doctor this afternoon.
Thankyou

Hi I have been at the doctors and had a
full sexual health screening and so did my
partner,im on a 2 week course of treatment
for chlamydia and my boyfriends on a
different one,she also said that the fact
that ive been pregnant before is a very
good sign bcos it shows my body can do it
and the fact that it was with my current
partner was also good, she had a look at my
cervix and said it looked healthy and I
asked about ovulating and she said the
fact I menstuate and ovulate is good but
told me not to get to obsessed doing
ovulation tests as they are sometimes
inacurate,so her advice was to do this
course of treatment no sex for three weeks
stop doing the tests and she thinks I will
be ok.Fingers crossed.
Feels good though just to go it was not as
scary as I thought. And also my partner is
really good at calming down when I get to
anxious. :p

Same problem here - i've had chlymidia for
about 1,5-2 years until I went back to
doctor's and my test came back positive 2
days ago. I'm currently taking the
antibiotics. Very worried I could be
infertile and since me and my partner do
not plan on having kids for another year
i'm not sure i'll calm down completely
until I start trying and do that for a
year.
My doctor said there is a test to see if
the tubes are closed but he wouldn't
recommend it as it's causes it's own small
damages and doesn't give 100% guarantee
anyway... I share the frustration and
hope for the best. Just wondering if
anyone knows how long it takes on average
for a significant damage to be done to the
reproductive organs? 2 months of having
chlamydia ...Or 3-5 years..? Thanks for
taking time to reply!

Just a special note and not an argument.
I am a nurse and I know of several women
that have had abortions that have went on
to have perfect beautiful babies so no,
abortions do not cause you to be
infertile. I had to have to abortions
and went on to have two beautiful perfect
now grown adults.
Good luck to you all!
Baby dust to you all when you are ready!

when I posted that ..I meant
sometimes*...People become infetile after
abortion..Not all people..I know a friend
that has had two abortions..And was told
she was infertile and wouldnt be able to
have babys...So not all people can have
babys after abortion..And im not trying to
start an argument either..I just was
giving her advice about her problem ...Me
saying that wasnt telling her that just
because she had an abortion meant she was
infertile..I meant it in the fact that
...It could be the possible reason she is
infertile ..

I think that in order to find out if the
tubes are blocked its quite an invasive
test but also you have to be trying to get
pregnant for at 12-18 months,
if I got chlamydia from my partner then I
would of had it for 4 years and if I had
it previously then it could have been many
years that ive had it.
But the gp I saw today said my cervix
looked healthy and seemed to think I will
be fine when it comes to getting
pregnant,
try not to worry to much until you are
trying for a babie.
Th gp I saw was very good she has put me
on a three week course of 2 different
types of antibiotics to make sure it gets
rid of it completly.

Thanks! I've got to have a cervix exam
too! Doctor gave me 4 pills to take at
once in 1 day (for my partner the same)
and asked to come back in 3 weeks. I hope
it'll be enough :?
I try really hard not to worry but you
know, me and my b/f just can't help it..
Although I keep repeating to him that we
won't have it in a week (fingers
crossed!).
Libido is lower than zero :) lots-o-movies
lately.. :)
again, thanks for the reply and best of
luck to you too!

My boyfriend had the four pills to be
taken all at the same time but im on about
6 a day,she said that she was giving me
more as I was having pain during sex,
so my im not allowed to have sex or a
drink for three weeks but thats wont
bother me,its a small price to pay for the
all clear.
Im sure you will be fine and just remember
that the facts are 75% ofpeople out there
who have it dont even know.
At least we know now and we will get the
all clear soon, its really opened my
eyes.
Xxx :p

Glad you got some good news!
I've switched doctors. Going for a
3-week follow up soon. The new doctor
said that the test to find out if the
tubes are blocked costs about $1000 and
insurances don't cover that. It's
painful but takes only 10 min.
For now i've calmed down and am feeling
fine.
As far as your pain - how bad is it? In
any position?
Good luck! I'll be checking back for
hopefully good news from you! :)

Isn't it chlamydia that they test you for
after an abortion?

They dont check for chlamydia after an
abortion,i found out that the only reason
they take blood previous to an abortion is
incase you heomaridge whilst under
aneathetic,so they can give a blood
transfusion (if needed).

No, I was given a test, a urine test for
an std. And i'm sure it was chlamydia.
Maybe they don't do it everywhere.

You know I wished I didn't read this
thread, cause now I will not have full
peace until I get a check for this std.
Well last year I had my pap smears and
pelvic exam but I really didn't ask the
doc to check for std's like chlamydia.
Well anyways I did came up with abnormal
and went through colposcopy and subsequent
paps but I have to wonder now what if I
had that bad luck and got that std and was
totally dismissed by the doctor since I
did not got tested. I know I was stupid
for not requesting a full std scan, call
me silly I got really shy, I wished the
doctor offered herself but no the doctor
won't recommend you anything it seems. I
think chlamydia screening should be
mandatory along with pap smear if the
patient is has been or is sexually active.

All the docs I have been to perform the
test during your pap by taking a big qtip
and rubbing it around. I've never heard
of them doing the test by just going to
the bathroom in a cup. Mostly what the
docs check for when they have you go in a
cup is pregnancy. At least this is what
my docs have always told me.
