What is Causing Pain in my Leg and How can I Relieve it? Posted: 01-25-06 13:19pm
During the last trimester of my last
pregnancy 5 years ago, I had severe pain
in the ligaments that go from my legs to
my trunk/abdomen. 4 days ago I woke with
the same pain in one leg. There was no
activity that I can contrubute this pain
to from the previous day or days. Did I
permanently damage my ligaments? I cannot
get the pain to subside. The pain
resonnates down my entire leg and it is
very painful to walk. How can I relieve
this pain? How can I prevent this from
happening again? Thank you.

It sounds as if you are experiencing
ischialgia, especially because you report
that the pain is not due to injury or
over-exertion. The problem could be
located in the lumbar vertebral column
where the nervus ischiadicus originates.
Pressure on that nerve can cause pain
similar to that which you are feeling.
Usually spondilotic changes in lumbar
vertebrae create pressure on the nerve’s
roots. You can go to your doctor for an
examination and request an X-ray of lthe
umbar vertebral column. You can take
analgesics for the pain in the meantime.
