Group B Strep? Posted: 01-25-06 16:36pm
I found out that I had group b strep.
When I was tested for a yeast infection.
At the time I was pregnant with my 2nd
child. (my 1st child was a planned
c-section because he was breech so it
didnt affect him). During the labour of
my 2nd son I was given antibiotics and
everything was fine. I know that 25% of
women carry it and that it can cause fatal
to the baby if gone undetected. I was
just wondering, my partner and I are now
trying for baby no 3, I wanted to know if
I am going to carry the strep forever (so
I have to be careful during the delivery
of my next baby) or whether it can go away
by itself? I am sure if/when I get
pregnant next that I will be tested again
for it, but I just wanted to know either
way or the other!

I don't know for sure if you will always
have it but it is so common these days.
Dr know how to treat it. When my
daughter was born, I was positive for it
but didn't make it to the hospital early
enough for me to get anitbiotics. They
watched her close for the 2 days we were
there and she was fine.

Thanks for the reply. I dont really know
much about it, while I was pregnant I was
told i'd need antibiotics but that was it.
Since then I have found out abit more and
it all sounded a little scary!
