How Much Weight Have You Gained?

I am due august 21 so that makes me around
10-11 weeks. I weighed myself yesterday
and realized that I have gained 6 pounds
already! All the reading I have been
doing says the 1st trimester you should
only gain 1-2 lbs.
How much have all of you gained in the 1st
trimester?
Thanks,
liz

I am due on august 21st...So about 10.5
weeks along. I weighed myself on
saturday and I had gained one pound.
I do feel like it is all in my stomach,
though. I feel like I am starting to
show, but not sure if its just being
bloated or what.
Can't wait till it looks like i'm pregnant
and not just getting fat!
Good luck all!

I am also due august and I feel that I
have put on lotsa weight! Its all around
my stomach and it makes me feel
discusting. Being bloated all the time
doesn't help! I don't want to keep
putting on unnecessary fat, does anyone
know some good exercises? Would it be ok
to start jogging abit? I powerwalk in the
afternoon occasionally, not enough
exercise really!!!!

Wait till after the baby to exercise.
Jogging is considered a no no after 8
weeks (i think, it maybe the 1st
trimester, but why risk it?) why are you
all so worried. It is normal to gain
different amounts of weight during
pregnancy. Try not to worry about how
much weight you are gaining and enjoy
being a new mom.

Ashlee- friend of mine gained 70 lbs
during her pregnancy. Because of this,
she had many many problems during and
after her pregnancy. It is very important
to pay attention to the weight you gain
during your pregnancy.
As far as exercise goes...Soooo important.
Milly, walking is perfect but I would
stay away from jogging. I would recommend
a prenatal yoga video as well. I go to
the gym about 3 days a week and it helps
to battle morning sickness and fatigue.
Caring for your baby during pregnancy also
means caring for yourself!

The best exercise that i've heard of for
pregnant women has to be swimming.
There's little to no risk of harming
yourself or your baby. Many places have
classes and programs geared specificaly
for women during pregnancy. Best part of
those classes is that all the women there
will also be preggo and you wont feel so
self-concious about your changing body.
Hope this helps! Congrats to all who are
already preggo!! I can't wait till I can
start stressing over all this too!! Lol!

everyone is different. I was not meaning
to not exercise at all, I was meaning
strenuous exercise. I wasn't able to
exercise for some of my pregnancy, I was
on bedrest. But I walked the rest of it
for exercise. I must have been doing
something right. I only gained 17lbs.

I think gaining 17lbs is actually less
than what the doctors suggest to gain.
But, as long as your baby is healthy thats
all that counts. After seeing my friend
gain 70lbs and develope gestational
diabetes and pre-eclampsia (sp?), I am
definately keep an eye on the weight I
gain. Anyways, that is in response to
your comment "why are you all so worried".
I had an appointment last week at 11 1/2
weeks and I have gained a total of 7
pounds. My doctor was not worried so I am
not either. I just have to try to ignore
my cravings for taco bell. Lol

with it though...I was waay underweight
when I conceived so it's not as bad as it
may sound!! Lol...Trying telling me
that!!! He thinks my baby is gonna be
quite large...Which is great..But
scary...Being that i'm going the drug free
route!! Lol...
The weight is all in my belly, butt, and
legs!! Lol...Yay!!! It's gonna be hard
post pardom..But i'll make it through!!!
Good luck ladies!!!

i just don't understand why gaining weight
should be the first thing on a mommy to
be's mind. It never really crossed my
mind. I ate healthy and exercised
(walked) when I wasn't on bedrest and my
son was healthy. I gained 17lbs and had
a 6lb. 12oz baby. He scored 9 and 10
and his apgar. He is 3 now. The case
you are talking about, with your friend is
excessive. This doesn't happen to even
20% of all pregnant women. Women who
only gain 15-30lbs can still get
gestational diabetes. I had it.
Pre-eclampsia will happen to you no matter
how much weight you gain. It is a form
of hypertension you body goes through. I
never developed this. But why scare
women into thinking if they gain a certain
amount of weight they will have problems
with their pregnancy. My mom had 3
children, the least she ever gained was
60lbs. She never had any problems, not
gd, not hypertension, nothing. It
depends on the person.

Wow, this sure has turned into a debate.
Anyways, here are some responses to your
comments.
First of all, I am not quite sure how or
why you would think that gaining weight is
the first thing on my mind. That was a
little presumptuous. Yes, it is something
I am thinking about while pregnant along
with a million other things.
Secondly, I think saying that I am scaring
women about gaining weight during a
pregnancy is a little dramatic. I agree
everyone is different. If a pregnant
woman who is 5'7" - 6' gained 70 lbs, I
really doubt that would put any harm or
strain on her body. If a person like me
or my friend, who is 5'2" and gains 70
lbs, I think that is going to put added
stress on my body that it does not need.
So yes, everyone is different and will
gain different amounts of weight. I
started this topic to hear everyones
experiences, not to preach my opinions.

I am due august 30 and have gained 1
pound.
At my last doctor's appointment, my
boyfriend weighed himself and announced
that he had gained 5 "sympathy" pounds. I
told him he'd gained 5 times what I had
and not to get too "sympathetic." lol

I'm feeling really good, actually. No
morning sickness or nausea at all (knock
on wood). Very tender breasts and a lot
of bloating. So the worst part for me so
far is when I suddenly have to pee and i'm
really confortable in bed. Lol. Also,
a couple of times, I have been making
something for dinner that I really wanted
and after I smelled it for a few minutes,
I couldn't even look at it anymore.
Edit: the stuffy nose, too.. I hate that.

Be glad you dont have the morning sickness
girls... Its horrible lol. Mines more
like all day sickness...And im 11.5 weeks
and ive lost 10lbs since ive been
pregnant. (sick) my mom says not to
stress she did the same thing...So it
might just be my nature where ive been
sick. Yeah i've done butt crunches and
yoga streaches since ive been pregnant to
try to keep my lower body tone to the best
I can. I worry about staying healthy for
me and my baby. I want to be able to
walk out of the hospital feeling confident
and proud with my baby in my arms. I
also still want to continue to feel
attractive to my husband. Dr's dont like
you to gain to much weight, and I think
its important to keep it all undercontrol
so your skin doesnt streach so fast, and
most importantly, you and your baby stay
healthy. Thats how I feel about it
anyway.... Its not my # 1 priority...But
it is on my list of concerns..Ya know?

This is the approximate of the weight gain
in "what to expect when you're expecting"
(all weights are approximate)
baby-7 1/2 lbs
placenta 1 1/2 lbs
amniotic fluid-2lbs
uterine enlargement-2lbs
maternal breast tissue-2lbs
maternal blood volume-4lbs
fluids in maternal tissue-4lbs
maternal fat stores-7lbs
total=30lbs
i hear that if you are petitie or
underweight you are recommended to and
should gain more weight than this and if
you are overweight you should gain less
weight than this
