Can This Hurt the Baby While Im Pregnant

Last night I was doing my nails with the
acrilyc gel kit I bought at the grocery
store. Its the kind of stuff they use in
the salons. The chemical smell got so
bad. It was making every body in our
house eyes water and its just was so
strong. I got very crampy after this
happend. Should I be worried? Is it in
my head? Im very concerned.

I'm not 100% sure what could happen, but I
do know certain fumes are bad for the
baby. I'd suggest going to the doctor, or
at least calling him.....Better safe than
sorry. Good luck.

Anything that affects you, can affect the
baby. I remember going into painted
house and the baby's started moving all
about--i left the house.
Do not, if possible breathe any poisens,
and do not touch with your hands any
poisens. I wear rubber gloves to clean,
and if a smell is harmful to me--i go away
from it. I will stay in well ventilated
areas only.

According to our ob doc, my wife could
continue to have her nails done all the
way through term.
If it was the same stuff used in the
salons it will be fine for you at home.
That is what our doc said, you probably
want to talk to your ob to verify.

My ob says to stay away from any fumes.
He said no to getting my nails and hair
colored. I wouldn't do it again.

hair color--perms will
go in your scalp too, but im sure the nail
stuff is just as bad--as the things that
do come in contact with your body. Well,
the nail stuff would "come in contact" a
little, when she misses the nail and gets
the finger with the chemicals--- like I
say--i will not touch any chemicals, or
breathe them, period while pregnant. I
am not a .Dr but this is my opinion.
Like even flea meds for my dogs, or flea
shampoos. Or even the flea collars.

Before I got pregnant I got my nails done
every 2 weeks. I still get them done but
I try to push it as far apart as my nails
will allow it and I wear a mask when I go
in.

How does everyone know they are fine to do
while pregnant?? All the studies say that
the fumes from hair dye and some chemicals
they use in the nail places are
tetrogenic, meaning they cause birth
defects. Some women might get lucky and
it won't effect their baby, but why say it
is okay when it is not. I would go with
your doctor on this one, if he is
reputable he will pass along the info. I
think it is selfish to get your hair and
nails done when you don't know the effect
it could have. It is only nine months.

i am not too sure but I think this said
something to the effect that my wife's ob
doctor whom has been delivering healthy
babies in the tampa bay area for more than
20 years said it was ok??
I dont know maybe that isn't what it said.

Well after yrs of studies on hair coloring
and nails I will listen to my docs and
nurses who took care of me. I have
pre-mature grey hair so there was no way I
was letting my hair come in naturally.

I asked about dying your hair during
pregnancy and I was told it was all okay
as for doing your nails I was told to wear
a mask cause the fumes are pretty strong.

I asked my hairdresser on saturday about
hair dying and she said there is no
evidence of the hair dye doing anything to
affect your baby. The colour might just
be a little different than usual because
of hormones etc. If you think about it
90% roughly of hairdressers are women and
they don't give up hairdressing just
because they're pregnant so if it's ok for
them to do that then i'm pretty sure it's
ok.

I have had my nails done since I as
19....I don' t believe that it will hurt
the baby. My ob told me that it was fine
and that she didn't know of any studies
stating otherwise.
I would suggest doing it in a well
ventilated area of your home or outside on
porch or patio.

this is actually wrong information...
There are no studys that say it is
harmfull or ok for your baby with fumes
from acrilic nails or hair dyeing. Its
just said to keep a distance if possible.
If hair dyeing wasnt safe they wouldn't
dye ur hair at a salon while pregnant they
would say u have to wait. The biggest
thing i've herd that has been a problem
with hair dying is the color not staying
like it should. Because of the hormones
and the changes that your body is going
threw the molecules in your hair can take
the die or not and then thats a waste of
money. Im not saying dye your hair all
the time and go get ur nails done every
weekend cause like I said there is no
actual proof that it can or can not hurt
the baby. I wear a mask when I mess with
fumes that may or may not cause harm to my
baby and I dont do it back to back I
stretch it as far as I can.

If it makes you feel better to fool
yourself into thinking your not putting
your child at risk to get your nails done
that is fine. It is your child. I am
just trying to help the original poster.
As for their are no studies on these
situations you are wrong. My obgyn gave
me a booklet when I got pregnant. It
listed studies about both nails and hair
dye. Both have ammonia in them. This is
toxic for the baby(even grown adults in
high doses). You never know how much or
how little is going to hurt a baby. Ever
mother and every baby is different.
Learning disabilities, heart defects and
other birth defects can stem from chemical
exposure. That is why it is my opinion
that it is the best thing for the baby if
you wait to get these things done.

shall I stop cleaning my house then as
well as doing my nails and hair?? I
haven't been told to stop using cleaning
supplies. I understand that the fumes
from anything can cause damage if taken in
large doses everday or for a long amounts
of time. We just shouldn't go out in
plublic if this is the case.

I'm sorry, I was told that it was the
fumes and as long as the area was
ventilated or you wore a mask it was fine.
I was also told that as long as the
chemicals don't sit on your scalp for a
prolonged period of time then that was
fine too. That's the problem with being
pregnant, none of the information given is
concrete. Some studies say this is
harmful some say it isn't. I just go by
what my doc says. She's been in the
business of delivering babies for 25
years. I think your body will tell you a
lot of the time when to stop somtthing
too. Obviously if the smell is bothering
you or you feel funny then it's time to
go. I guess it's just a matter of
everyone doing what they think is best,
right? That's all any of us do, our
best.

actually my doc does say to avoid harsh
chemicals when cleaning your house and
only to do it in well venilated areas with
gloves. I think there is a difference
between cleaning your house and getting
your hair or nails done. We have to
clean our houses, we don't have to have
high-lights and fake nails.

i clean my home everyday and getting my
nails done 2 times a month or less isn't
going to harm me or my baby any more than
cleaning supplies that are out these days.
I don't mean to sound rude however
anything done in moderation isn't going to
harm anything. It's up to the
individual, like tigresacanela24 said:
if your body is telling you to stop then
that would be the best idea.
We all need something that makes us feel
beautiful at this time in our lives and if
having you hair and nails done makes you
feel nice then there isn't anyreason not
to do it.
