last night I was doing my nails with the acrilyc gel kit I bought at the grocery store. Its the kind of stuff they use in the salons. The chemical smell got so bad. It was making every body in our house eyes water and its just was so strong. I got very crampy after this happend. Should I be worried? Is it in my head? Im very concerned.

you can get your nails done but it should be in a salon where they're properly ventilated and you don't inhale the fumes. When you go you can also ask them to give you a surgical mask while they do your nails. You shouldn't do them yourself while you're pregnant.

Yeah, I pretty much feel the same way. I feel so frumpy most of the time that sometimes I need a beauty treat! Being preggo can sure make you feel like you look a mess...

From a common sense stand point, do not use ammonia and bleach together and if it is possible, avoid ammonia all together because it is a super high voc compound.

The only big no-no that I am aware of for pregnant women as far as cleaning goes is the cat litter box. Toxoplasmosis is really dangerous and it will kill or seriously injure the fetus. To this day we try to make sure it is me that cleans the litter box because it is still possible for either of us to get toxoplasmosis but if she gets it and is nursing him, he will get it too. It is not a curable ailment and so it will flare up at anytime if you do get it.

I am manic about washing my hands after cleaning the litter box since I am the primary caregiver for my son, since nicole has to work monday through friday.

As a general rule of thumb, if you do not need to do something involving dangerous cleaning agents or whatever is in the nail stuff or hair dye, do do it. From a reality stand point, under no circumstance should you ever clean your cat litter box durring and after pregnancy until you are no longer nursing or making bottles for the baby. You can really hurt the baby with those viruses. Also if your animals are strictly indoor animals, it is far less likly to be in your animals feces but still not worth the risk.

And to top it all off, go to your ob and ask him/her what you can and cannot do, only they have the "final" yea or nay that means business.

In general, you should never mix ammonia and bleach... Even if you're not pregnant.

Hair Dye
No one has enough information to guarantee that using chemical dyes on your scalp during pregnancy is completely safe. It's not just breathing in the chemicals that is dangerous....they are also absorbed into your blood stream and that is a known fact.

That said, there's no evidence that using these dyes every month or two will cause birth defects, either.

It is up to the mother I guess. Personally, I won't take the chance. I'm 39 and believe me, the gray is fast and furious...but you just never know. With all the unexplained health problems our society is facing today, it's just not worth it to me.

Just my opinion.
