Correct Gait After Compound Break And Short Leg Posted: 01-30-06 15:37pm
Hi, I am conerned about my mom who had
multiple surgeries to fix a compund
fracture of her right femur and shattered
knee cap. The knee replacement is fine
and the femur ws repaired but ended up
being shortened by about 1-1 1/4 ".
Therefore her gait is off and walking,
even with the walker, is difficult. I
think an orthotic in her shoe to even out
her leg lengths would work but her doctor
says no. I am at a loss to help make
walking easier.
She has carpal tunnel and her hands have
been hurting because of the pressure she
has been putting on the walker to even her
gait. Any suggestions?
