Epigastric Region Cramping Posted: 02-01-06 13:34pm
Two weeks ago I woke up at four in the
morning with terrible cramping pain in my
epigastric region. Pain came in waves
and lasted for about two hours, then
continued to return for the next few days
with each episode lasting about two hours.
Made an appointment with my doctor and had
an ultrasound which came back negative,
interestingly, had the same type of
symptoms almost one year to the date and
last years ultrasound also came back
negative. The only thing the report did
say was that they were unable to see my
pancreas. I'm not sure what to think of
that. I am scheduled for an abdominal ct
scan tomorrow, and the most likely onto a
hida scan.
Does anyone have an insight on what may be
going on, and has anyone else's pancrease
failed to show up on an ultrasound?

The pancreas often doesn't show up on an
ultrasound, mainly because of a lot of gas
present in the bowels. It also may not
show up in an obese patient. Ct scan is
a much better tool for evaluating the
pancreas.
