Hi, i'm new to this site. I want to help
people find a solution to a problem that I
have been wrestling with for years. I
used to suffer extreme panic attacks with
heart palpitation and losing rhythm,
strong beat afterwards etc. I read a book
on yoga and read that I had probably
created this scenario myself, so I made a
conscious decision right there and then
that if I had created it, then I had
better jolly well un-create it so I took
yoga lessons and learned about breathing
for a start. Anyone who is suffering from
these frightening and
feeling-like-you-are-going to pass out or
die take note. Just take some time out
every day for yourself. Lie down in a
peaceful environment, place right hand on
the tummy and left one on the chest.
Start to listen to your breath and watch
it rise and fall, firstly rising in the
tummy then spreading to the chest and then
falling from the chest and then into the
tummy. It is so simple. Just watch your
breathing. That will take your focus off
what is happening with your heart. That
is a good place to start. Take advice
from a yoga teacher. They are doing
experiments all over the world on the
effects of breathing on the actions of the
heart. We don't need these awful drugs
that do us more harm than good. We just
have to accept what is happening and gain
power over our situation ourselves. Just
that empowerment alone is a great start.
Of course you have to watch your diet - no
caffeine, alcohol, lose weight etc. The
trouble with these feelings in your heart
is that you develop a neurosis and because
we become neurotic, the situation becomes
much worse and our lives revolve around
it. Break the cycle! Good luck

Palpatations Posted: 02-05-06 19:55pm
I tried the breathing technique last night
that you suggestions and my palpatations
went away for awhile. They started up
before bedtime and I did some deep
breathing excercises and they subsided a
little. I was calm enough to go to sleep
and I slept great. As soon as I woke up,
I started having them again, but I kept
calm all day, I would have them
sporatically, but not as bad. I am going
to my gp tomorrow for bloodwork on my
thyroid, too much t3 in your system can
cause heart palpatations also or
hyperthyroid can cause them also. I want
to rule that out before I just accept the
fact that it's an anxiety problem only.
Thanks for your yoga exercises, it did
help!
[ hi just read your message and just
woundering if your palpatations ever went
away. Do they happen because of stress
and worrying

I started having extreme panic attacks and
heart palpitations and flutters, I felt
like my heart was skipping beats or it
felt like a really strong heart beat. I
started seeing a counselor about my panic
attacks and she advised me to go to the
doctor to have my heart checked out for
mitral valve prolapse. I did and thats
what was causing all of my heart
palpitations and flutters. My counselor
told me that sometimes with you have mvp
it can give you the palpitations and make
you think your having a panic attack so I
thought I should check it out to see what
it was.

They did a cardiac ultrasound on me and
saw the valve and they also had me wear a
holter moniter. The doctor said the
leakage that occurs with my mvp is very
mild and almost insignificant, but I have
to go back every 6 months to a year to
make sure that it isnt getting worse. He
said that I could possibly grow out of
mine. If it gets worse they will put me
on medicine and I would have to take an
antibiotic before I went to the dentist or
have surgery and in the most severe cases
they do surgery. I don't have the heart
flutters all the time. Sometimes I can
have them all day and some days I don't
have any. Mine seem to be much worse
when I drink caffiene. I've heard that
for the most part mvp isn't serious.
It's very common in young women.
