Lo/ovral Anyone? :p
Posted: 02-02-06 11:53am

Hi everyone! The clinic I go to recently stopped carrying alesse because the drug manufacturer wouldn't allow it anymore. As a result, they took me off alesse and put me on lo/ovral, another monophasic pill since I don't respond well to the triphasic ones.

Ever since I started taking lo/ovral, i'm nauseated 24/7 esp. After I eat - doesn't matter what. I've also been more drowsy than usual and experiencing some awful headaches. I'm already prone to both of those things on a regular basis anyway since I have fibromyalgia as a result of osteoarthritis.... As of right now, this pill just seems to be aggrevating my condition.

Anyway, is anyone else taking lo/ovral and did you experience the same side effects? If so, how long did they last for you? I've been on several brands of the pill, and none of the adjustment periods seemed to suck this much. I don't mind suffering for a few weeks, but I don't want to stay like this for months until my body adjusts, if it does at all.

Thanks!
Nicole

I cannot tolerate any type of hormones, so I have an iud, but am educated in the healthcare field.

Many women find that different brands of pills have different effects on their body, so sometimes trying out many kinds of new pills is good.

Alesse has 20 mcg of estrogen, lo ovral has 30 mcg of estrogen. So that is quite a difference for your body. Is there anyway you could buy alesse from a regular pharmacy? Giving this higher dose of estrogen a month or so to see how you react is a good idea, but do not let yourself suffer, it is okay to want something different!

Thanks for your input cari! Unfortunately since my health insurance has changed, I can't afford the monthly bill that would come with getting alesse from a pharmacy. Getting it from a clinic is considerably less expensive. I didn't realize the hormones were so much higher in the new kind i'm on! Thank you for calling that to my attention. If I don't start feeling more normal in a month, i'll take your advice and see if I can be switched to something different. :)
