Anyone Else Experience This?
Posted: 02-04-06 21:58pm

Im a 20 yof, and for the last 4 months have had episodes were i'm either laying down (for the most of them) 2 times standing up, and then I get this tingle in my left arm, and along my left side, and then I get super flushed and hot, and then my heart starts to race to about 130bpm and as that happens I get a burning sensation in my stomach and it goes up to my chest. Then my heart goes down back to 70-80bpm, the burning stops but I still feel anxious after it happens. This attack lasts about 2-3 mins tops. I have been to the doctors about this all my tests have been fine and she's put me on zoloft to calm my anxiety and panic that I have had for about 4 years now. The thing is I still haven't been able to make myself believe its just random panic attacks because of the burning and the tingling which have never been a part of my panic attacks before so I am asking has anyone had similar experiences? If you have could you please share, it would help me soo much.

Thank you

Have you thought about getting another opinion from another Dr., you know that you do have that right. Do you feel that it is a neuro or a cardio problem, you might ask for a referral to be sent to one , even though I am not a Dr., I do realize that anxiety and stress can do a lot of negative things and can play a lot of not so good games on your system.
Good luck!

Has it happened since you've been on zoloft? Don't think i'm crazy, but were you laying down on your left side? I had a disc problem in my neck that just "showed up" one day. It can really effect you in different ways, you might actually be cutting off some blood flow until you move again and then it rushes all at once. I'm serious, this happened to me, I had to get an injection in my neck.

Either that or having a reaction to something, are you taking any other meds before zoloft?
Good luck!

Hi jenna,

i too suffer from anxiety attacks, the usual dizziness being weak at the knees, hot flushes, sensitive hearing, out of control racing heart, fast shallow breathing, dry mouth and the world famous relentless nausea.
However I don’t lie down, usually iam become rather paranoid; for me a serious attack lasts for about four hours till it subsides and leaves me in a pool of utter lethargy.
It seems that this anxiety condition throws new physical conditions at us as time passes i.E. I too have recently started getting these faint numb/pins and needles sensations in my right and now left hand, I wonder what’s next?

I sincerely hope things start improving for you

all the best

Hi jenna,
i was thinking on your problem again, because I have had several different issues with anxiety, chronic pain, depression and meds meds meds. If you like another suggestion here it is:

my face would go white and then turn beet red, several times I was driven to the doctor. I was told, "its natural to have raised pressure/pulse usually every one is nervouse in the doctors, office.
I still had these episodes, even talking to a friend at lunch, no stress at all, i've fainted and had to fight fainting, my hands would shake, and I felt extremely sick to my stomach. After being dismessed from the doctor 3-4 times, and er 2x . My husband said ' I think it must be a medication. So we called my pharmacist, asked him to go over all my meds to see which one was more likely to bring on high blood pressure episodes in my case it was effexor and it was time releases.

The doctor said,"that is extremely rare reaction", I said "well then I must be rare"

my very strong suggestion is call a pharmacist and tell them all your rx's and remember you know your own body better than anyone. So keep your voice out there.

Let us know how you are doing.

Btw....If its possible take your blood pressure am and pm, an especially if your having an episode.

I really wish you the best.

Hey jenna, glad to see your doing better.

I'm the same age as you, male, been having panic attacks for about 2 years now on and off. I find that the symptoms manifest themselves in so many different ways. I too get the burning sensation in my stomach. I used to get a tingling feeling all through the right side of my body, just the right from tmy lower legs to my head. However, I found that thru self control and understanding, I was able to control these symptoms.

Now I get milder symptoms but still enough to cause me worry. My muscles contract in my arms sometimes but its just important to know that its only a panic attack and there's nothing wrong!

Hope you're doing well and best wishes

Hey max (chesterfan),

thank you for sharing your experiences with me. It's been a lot of help to hear from someone who gets the same symptoms as myself. I am starting to finally get my anxiety under control again, and it feels great.

Hi jenna, I totally understand where your coming from. Im 32 myself & have been experencing persistant chest, shoulder, arm all in the left hand side, plus chronic indigestion. Having the pain is the most frightening thing I have ever experienced. I have had several ecg's & blood tests and all was clear. Im going to see a cardiologist soon to rule out heart trouble which is th emain thing we are all very scared of. Thats the bottom line with these anxieties. You get a chest pain or discomfort in the left arm and the panic kicks in making it a vicious cycle. I tend to get all these pains even when im not anxious. Best thing to do is to get checked out at the docs or hospital and maybe then your anxieties will slip away once you have peace of mind that there is nothing wrong. Be strong and let me know how you get on xx
