Stretchmark Help..
Posted: 02-06-06 11:26am

Hey! I am 7 weeks pregnant and starting to wonder about stretch marks. Iv seen some pretty "not pleasent" pictures of some people with massive stretch marks on their stomach etc. I hear cocoa butter prevents it? I was just wondering from you experuenced ppl. How to prevent or fix them?

Well I am 35 weeks pregnant and I am just starting to get them...I only have a couple small ones and I am hoping I wont get anymore...But since my tummy started growing i've been using palmers cocoa butter...I dunno if it really helped or not but it certainly didn't hurt to use it. Once you get stretch marks you can't do anything about them...Some say the cocoa butter will help take the redness away, I am not sure if that is true or not but i'm going to continue to use my palmers and see. If you do get them unfortunately they are there forever (crappy!) the only thing I have heard that is 100% affective to get rid of them is a tummy tuck (if they're below the belly button area) but I am not sure you are willing to have major sugery to get rid of them. Anyways I hoped that helped and good luck to you and your pregnancy! :d

There is no way to prevent them and so you just need to accept the fact that they are there.

Cocoa butter may help to reduce the color so that it is not so apperant but it is a part of motherhood and so embrace it. It doesnt have to be something that you are so proud of that you show to everyone but don;t be ashamed of your growth marks. You are properly caring for your baby and your belly is growing faster than the skin can grow so it is stretching, you are doing a good job.

Don't sweat the small stuff there is too many other things to worry about.

I have heard to keep your skin moisturized and to have a healthy diet (drink lots of water too) that may help but who know??

Some people get them and some don't you just have to hope you are one of the lucky ones.

Try not to put on excessive weight (only put on healthy weight, once again eat healthy) so that your skin doesn't stretch out more than it has to.

I deal with the skin in my profession..The best things to do are drink plenty of water..Not just for your skin..But for your baby as well. Hydrate hydrate hydrate...Avoid using your louffa spunge in that area...The skin will be dry as it is..And exfolliating it causes excessice dryness..Avoid hot showers...Luke warm will have to be the hottest you go for your preggy weeks!! (that really sucks!!!) ..If your belly begins to itch..Do not scratch it!! Doing this will cause your skin to open and allow for quicker stretching. The best time to apply lotion (oil based in the stretching areas) is immedietly after you take a shower..Use a massage motion to penetrate the lotion into your pores.

I am 28 weeks along and have visible capillaires now that there's more pressure..A few have come close to busting... I have experienced minor stretchmarks but I was extreemely petite before conceiving. I know..As well as many others..That cocoa butter does help reduce...Not prevent. If you were very small upon conceiving than you should expect them...If you had a gut or ya know had some weight on your bones..Than you might be better off than many. Only because you have the elasticity of the skin and you have more room.

Be warned..Your body will look nothing like it does before conceiving while you're preggy. Understanding that can lessen the amount of anxiety you face when your body starts changing dramatically...Did I mention it happens over night??!?! Lol..

Even though my body is going crazy...It's all for my little girl...When she gets here..It's then my responsibility to get my body back pre baby!!

My mom had seven kids and has no stretch marks! Pretty amazing, but she didn't do anything to try and prevent them. I think it just depends on your body, but i'd want to prevent them if I could too!

Im not even pregnant but yet I have stretch marks. Im not fat. But I have some meat on my bones haha.. They are completely normal... And yes cocoa butter does help alot! Mine are almost invisable now. Of course i've been using it alot.. Doing it everynight wont help soon. Normally I apply mine once or twice a week over a period of time. Plus i've been tanning alot recently. It blends it well.. Keep your skin moisturized while you are preggy, then after you give birth expose yourself to sun and keep using the cocoabutter... It helps alot

The sun is actually our worst enemy...If you like the elasticity of your skin..I suggest you stay away from the sun!! The sun is why plastic surgeons make soooo much money off of 35 year olds...If ya catch my drift. A minimum of 15-20 spf is required if you are in the sun at all. The sun is especially dangerous to newbie babies!! If you are in the sun a lot...I would try my damnedest to break that habit. Trust me...If you don't want your skin to start sagging at the ripe age of 30 I would take this into consideration...

Ps...If you're going to destroy your skin...Why pay for it??

My friends baby had ummm im not sure what the name of it is.. But its when the babys liver sint quite mature but its not at a deadly stage and they have a little yellow tint to their skin and eyes. Her doctor told her to just let the baby get a few minutes of sun light a day.
Also it's not the most healthy thing but tanning can lighten the apperance of some stretch marks. I got some on my sides when I was working out before my pregnancy and I tanned alot and there gone, thats also with using alot of lotion.

Jaundice and it affects the liver because the babies ability to get rid of excess red blood cells that went with the baby just before the cord was cut.

Light and food are the way to make the baby healthy, food because it makes the extra blood cells go out faster in poo and light to allow the skin to synthasize out extra bad cells.

Sun is not good for stretch marks. That was good advice.
