Irregular Periods Before... Trouble Getting Pregnant Now? Posted: 02-06-06 12:53pm
Hi: I am a 21 year old female. I have
always had slightly irregular periods
growing up. I would always have a period
it seems, but it kinda had a mind of its
own and would never know when it was going
to show up. My husband and I are going
to try for a baby in the upcoming year or
so and I am wandering if anyone there
experienced this and if so, did you have a
hard time getting pregnant? I am just so
worried I won't be able to get pregnant!

I Have Irregular Periods Too! Posted: 02-09-06 03:17am
I am a 26 years old and have been married
for 14 months now. My husband and I have
been ttc since oct. Without success. I
was on birth control pills on and off
during college and since coming off of
them in july I have only had 5 periods.
Some sites that I have read say that this
is common when coming off of birth
control, but I never had this problem when
I wasn't taking my pills before. I know
that I can get pregnant b/c in college I
got pregnant with my old boyfriend and had
a miscarriage at 10 weeks.
I have been having a slight pain over my
left ovary for the past three months and I
am going to have a transvaginal ultrasound
on friday. When I use ovulation
predictor kits I can never seem to tell
when I am ovulating, so I am getting
worried that I don't ovulate every month.
My 22 year old sister got diagnosed with
pcos this past monday so I am hoping and
praying that I don't have that. Just
keep a positive attitude and try not to
stress yourself out about getting pregnant
and I am sure you will be fine. I know
several people who have gotten pregnant
with irregular periods. It just takes a
little longer to conceive. Try using
ovulation predictor kits to see if you
ovulate around the same time each month.

Hi amy:
thanks for the advice! I guess I will
just tackle it when the time comes. I
just can't stand the thought of not being
able to be a mom!! I wish you the best!

Hi amy & scrdat,
i have no idea if you are going to get
this, it's a few months late. I am so
sorry to hear that both of you are going
through all of this.
I am 25 yrs old.
I have been going though this same sort of
thing. I have always had irregular, heavy
periods. I also have a lot of pain. I
had no idea when I was going to get my
period each month.
About 2 yrs. Ago I got married. I was
trying to get pregnant, as well.
I'm not sure about when i'm ovulating,
really hard to tell.
I had quite a few ultra sounds done. I
also had transvaginal ultra sounds done.
On the ultrasounds it showed I had some
cysts. So my Dr. Tried me on birth
control pills to try & regulate my
cysts. The bc pills didn't work. So then
I switched ob/gyn's. My Dr. Noticed my
cysts weren't shrinking with the bc pills.
So he then did laproscopic surgery (tiny
cut under the belly button). To try &
either shrink or remove the cyst.
I had the laproscopic surgery done last
month. During the surgery my Dr. Found
that my ovary had become a huge cyst. So
my Dr. Tried to drain my ovary as much as
he could, but could not do it. He was
looking around all over & found
another larger cyst that was covering my
uterus.
Well at my last Dr. Appt. My Dr. Told
me he had to go in again & open me up
to remove the huge cyst & my left
ovary.
On wednesday I had open surgery done. I
had half of my left ovary removed, my left
fallopian tube removed & huge cyst
removed.
I was trying to become pregnant, but had a
lot of trouble with it. My Dr. Said it
would be difficult to become pregnant for
me, but he said he could help with that.
So that's really nice.
I really hope you both don't have this
happen to you. I just thought I would let
you know what happened to me in case you
have to go through surgery.
