Is Tonsil Wound and Dripping Blood Normal? Posted: 02-07-06 06:22am
My niece was brought in to hospital to get
her tonsils out, she was only out 1 day
and she had to be brought back into
hospital as she was spitting up blood the
doctor said that she had a throat
infection and sent her home. A couple of
days later she was brought back into a
different hospital again spitting up blood
this time the doctor said that the blood
was dripping into her stomach and he said
this was normal it dosent sound very
normal to me the doctor said that it
happens to 1 in 10 children but ive never
heard of it before can u please help
me???

After removing the tonsils, there are two
wounds left in the throat. It is quite
normal for an unhealed wound to bleed. It
is also normal to swallow the blood. The
wound needs time to heal. Intervention is
requested only if there is more blood from
a new wound . Your niece can eat liquid
food and take antibiotics for a while.
