Say you want to "skip" your period for a
bit... A week, or two... Or etc....
If you just start a new pack instead of
taking the placebo, are you still
"protected" from pregency?
--does this still work for progesteron
only pill? Even if you've just started
them? (they say to go thru two full
months - to be on teh safe side, before
engaging in unprotected sex.-- so if
instead of taking the sugar pills I just
start the next pack, am I adding days at
which I might not be "covered", or am I
just as safe?)

Progestin only pills do not actually have
a placebo week, they are all active pills.
Progestin only pills do not regulate your
periods like regular pills, so you cannot
skip a period while on them. It does not
take 2 full months to become effective,
most docs do say to give progestin only
pills a full 2 weeks before engaging in
unportected sex. This is the policy where
I work.

so all progestron pills are like that? I
was certain that the brand I was on had a
placebo week.... At least thats what the
doc said.

Please tell me what brand of pill you are
on. Progestin pills are not meant to
regulate periods, they cause your cervical
mucous to thicken and cause your uterine
lining to thin.
No they do not have a placebo week.
also if you look online you will notice
artivles and info about the mini pill.

on is micronor, I ended up spending some
time yesterday searching for more info on
it, as obviously my doc was misinforming
me.

this is very interesting, i've found quite
a bit of literature that says its not as
"effective" as it should be untill after
the 2nd month. The few people that i've
known that have taken the progestron only
pill have said the same thing.
The pamthlet that comes with my bc,
doesn't say anything about waiting two
months, just two weeks or something like
that...
So you only have to wait two weeks? Very
interesting, again thanks for the the
info!

Yeah a lot of people hear many different
things from docs... It would not hurt to
wait a month for it to become effective,
but technically 2 weeks is all it is
supposed to take. But hey anyhting that
makes you feel safer..
