Awaiting Mri... Posted: 02-09-06 13:14pm
My back pain started almost 3 weeks
ago...I have been in and out of my drs
office and the er 6x's since then...I am
in so much pain I cant handle it..It is so
horrible I cannot sleep at night...I wish
I knew what was wrong with me...I am
having an mri done but I cannot get in
until next wednesday and I am so anxious
to find out what is wrong...My dr kept
telling me it was a pulled muscle...I have
had pulled muscles and they never hurt
this bad for this long...Then they checked
for infection...None...He tried to push me
out the door again yesterday telling me
its a muscle...But I stood my ground and
told him I do not think that is what it
is...And he finally scheduled me an
mri...
History-
--i did have a baby 4 months ago by
emergency c-section...I had a
spinal...They were kind of leaning towards
that being the cause of my pain...But he
thinks the pain would have started before
now so he kind of checked that off...
--i have a history of pulling muscles in
my back...Most likely from my line of
work...I do a lot of
bending,twisting,lifting,walking while
carrying heavy objects,etc...So they were
leaning toward another pulled muscle...But
this pain is so much different (and much
more intense) than it was any time I had a
pulled muscle and the pain has lasted a
lot longer...
--my mom has a condition with her
back...So did my grandfather...I cannot
think of what it is called...But I think
it is degenerative disc disease? But I am
not certain...But I know it is some sort
of disc disease...
--i had an xray done last week that came
back normal...
Symptoms-
--burning pain in mid-low back...I wouldnt
say its my lower back...But just above
it...
--pain radiates all throughout my
back...Depending on how I am sitting or
lying...
--i had one episode of sharp stomach and
buttock pain on my right side when I was
laying a certain way...
--my back feels "fatigued"
--when I lean forawrd the pain gets
worse...
--if I lay on my side and have my husband
lean his weight against my back it takes
some of the pressure off...
--if I sit in a hard back chair with my
back rolled and I push into the back of
the chair it takes some of the pressure
off...
--when I stand up to walk my spine cracks
and pops and feels like it is re-aligning
itself...
--walking takes some pressure off...But if
I walk too long at a time it starts
hurting worse...
Medications-
--anaprox-- I stopped taking these because
they were making my stomach hurt really
bad...
--flexeril-- they werent doing anything
but making me too tired...I have a 4 month
old baby to care for...I cant be sleepy
all the time! So I stopped taking these
too...
--motrin 800-- I take 2 a day...I dont
know how much good they are doing because
I am still in a lot of pain...
--percocet-- the only way I can sleep at
night is if I take 2 of these before
bed...I can still feel the pain through
them...But I can fall asleep so id say
they are working...
--vicodin-- I take 2 of these throughout
the day...Starting when I 1st get up...I
hurt from the minute I wake up to the
minute I go to bed...I can feel the pain
through these too but I can tolerate it at
least...
I just dont get how I can still feel the
pain through these medications...I usually
have such a low threshold for pain
medications...I had knee surgery last year
and only took darvocet afterward because
the percocet was way too much for me...But
with this back pain it is like nothing
gives me relief! I am so exhausted and I
just want to be pain free!
Other-
-i am off work so I havent been doing too
much activity...
-i do carry my baby around a lot and pick
him up out of his crib,swing,bath,etc...
So yeah...I do not see why the pain isnt
at least subsiding some...If anything it
just seems to be getting worse!
I guess I should add that I am not
overweight and I young, active and in shape
and I am not heavy at the top...So I just
dont know...
Anyone have any ideas of what this sounds
like?
Any advice for other forms of pain
management?
Thanks for reading this...And thanks in
advance for any replies!
