Getting Off of Depo
Posted: 02-13-06 13:10pm

I've always had erratic, painful periods. The doc suggested I get on depo to hopefully help with the pain and regulate, if not stop my period all together.
It did not work!! I bled for the entire time I was on it (got two shots) and then some. I was supposed to go back for a third sometime in january and declined. I had my first "real" period for 12 days. It stopped friday. Now it's monday and I started again this morning. So that's 2.5 days. I'm wondering if it takes a while for them to be even somewhat "normal" (they were never normal again anyway).
I'm 99% sure that I have endo, but just haven't taken the steps for diagnosis, but I wanted to see if anyone has had this happen when getting off of depo.
Before the shot, my periods were still trying to regulate themselves from being pregnant and breastfeeding for 11 months after giving birth. But before pregnancy I would have a period for about 2 weeks, have a 2 or 3 week break, then period again. So I don't know if I should just accept this and live with it for the meantime, or if they'll eventually be more spread apart. ??

Yes they will be more spread apart.

Depo causes your uterine lining to thin out quite a bit, it also thickens your cervical mucous and stops ovulation.

In most women the uterine lining thins out and they do not get a period, which is great for them. But in some women depo causes the uterine lining to thin out so much that it bleeds a lot. It will eventually stop, but you are at risk for pregnancy.

Oh sorry..Hehehe celibacy definately does put a damper on conception
sorry.. Can you use b.C. Pills at all? Some docs like to give women with bleeding problems the pill, it can help stop the bleeding.

I've tried every bcp they've attempted to put me on for the last 7 years and none of them have helped in the least. I'm basically destined to suffer!! It isn't the constant bleeding that's so bothersome (although it certainly has its downfalls), it's the pain!
