Okay, so I have been on ortha tri cyclen
lo since august of last year.
Late this weekend I started my period when
I was on active pills. I was only midway
through the cycle.
At first I thought it was just spotting
(which I have never had, but knew was
possible). However, it continued and I
became aware I was fully menstrating, but
some time early. I didn't know what to do
so I continued taking the pills as
directed. Now I am starting to really
worry.
I am starting to freak out because I have
read some posts on here saying that if you
get your period during your active pills
then something is wrong. I was supposed
to start up my period in about a week and
a half.
Fyi: there has been some change in my diet
and exercise patterns as of late because
of an injury. Also I am under a lot of
stess as I am completing a double masters
degree this spring... But nothing seemed
significant to warrant this!!! My body is
usually pretty resilient.
Thats it in a nutshell - any information
is welcomed.
Thank you!!!

Hi... I had this exact same thing this
month for the first time. I have been on
the pill for about a year and 8 months or
so... I have switched kinds once about 6
months ago. Anyways, I was on my last
week of active pills last week. I
usually get my period the wednesday of the
placebo week (today)... I noticed that
last wednesday night I had terrible
cramping which usually happens the day or
two before my period comes. And sure
enough, I got my period on friday and all
done now when I was supposed to not get it
today. I don't really know why it
happens, but from what I have read it
happens to lots of other women as well.
You might try another month of pills and
see if it happens again. If so, I would
call your doc and see what he/she thinks.
I know that I have been having a lot of
trouble with this pill so I am going to
give another a try. Just out of
curiosity, do you have headaches on your
period when you are on the pill?

Thank you! That makes me feel a bit
better. I was worried something was
wrong.
I do get headaches during this time. I
had a horrible one the night it started
through the next day. I actually did not
correlate the two because I thought it was
in response to stress. Otherwise I have
had no problems from ortha lo.
Did you continue taking the active pills
and finish off the pack with the placebos?
I just want to make sure I am doing it
properly. So far I have been continiuing
them as normal.
Thanks again. ;)

Yeah, I just continued on taking the pills
as normal. It has worked out alright so
far... Did you suffer from headaches
often before you were on the pill?
Thanks again!

Regardless of how much bleeding you are
having it is only breakthourgh
bleeding...You will still have a period
when you are suppsed to, but technically
what you had was some pretty heavy
breakthrough bleeding.

I Spoke to My Doctor Posted: 02-20-06 12:38pm
Hey ashbriee:
i just wanted to let you know that I spoke
to my doctor about my early period on the
active pills, and she said that it will
just happen sometimes.... Nothing to
worry about I guess. If it keeps
happening though I would swith pills! :)
hope this helps! Have a good one.

I had a similar experience once. I took a
test to make sure everything was okay, and
it was. I don't think I actually got my
"period" again until the following month
(on inactive pills when I was supposed
to). So I wouldn't worry if you don't get
anything this time with inactives, it may
straighten out next month. I just kept
taking them as normal and eventually
things worked out. Hope this helps!
