Astigmatism... Contacts? Posted: 02-15-06 01:44am
Hey.. As I guess you could all figure
out, I have an astigmatism. I didnt know
this until my last eye doctor appointment
cause I guess I never heard it before or
my parents just never said anything.
Anyways I wanted to get contacts and my
eye doctor said there are contacts I could
try but might not work, but she didnt even
ask if I wanted to try.. is there
contacts I could try?.
Even after the viset she gave me a new
perscripotion for glasses and I didnt feel
like it was as clear as it should be,
apparently I dont need bifocals anymore.
I want to try contacts. I dont like
glasses. And I would really only use
contacts for when I am driving (im 17
almost)
so basically my question is this... How
likly are contacts to work? And should I
try going to a differnt eye doctor and
getting a 2nd option?
Please pm me to let me know what you
think.. Sorry for such a long post

Here in the uk they are advertising on
television a new type of contacts for
astigmatism. I can't remember the name,
but do a search (maybe even try on
yahoo.Co.Uk) and there's definitely one
that is for astigmatism. Someone in my
work has astigmatism and i'm sure he wears
contacts. I wear glasses for mine, but
only for reading. As far as I know the
problem with astigmatism, is that you
don't want to get too used to corrected
vision, or it can get worse. If I was
you i'd get some glasses for driving and
keep them off when you can. Bit of a
hassle putting contacts in when you need
them.
I find I can rely on my glasses a bit. I
grab them to read the paper etc, but when
I go on vacation, I don't take them....I
just manage without! Funny that.

Yea thanks.. I barley weear my glasses.
I found that when I stopped wearing them
all the time my vision got better so yea
thats onw reason y I dont wear them, and
the fact that they are 5 years old and are
to small for my head and are in a childs
frame lol.. I got them in grade 7 lol...
Im thinking of getting a differnt eye
doctor.. I wounder if that would cost me
any money to switch.

Hey, I have basically the worst
astigmatism there is, but my visin isn't
that bad otherwise. I wear coopervision
toric xr.
You need a new doctor. It took me 3
different tries to find the right
prescription, and there are alot of people
that have the same problem with contacts.
It is worse with astigmatism. Your doctor
may not want to go through the pain of
finding the right ones for you.
My advice: find a new doctor, and try
until you succeed! It is well, well, well
worth the time and money to wear contacts.
