Smoking

I'm 11 weeks and 5 days along. Before I
got pregnant I was smoking almost 2 packs
a day, since I found out i've cut down a
lot. I plan to quit cold turkey this
weekend, I know I should have done it when
I found out but non smokers, i'ts harder
than you will ever know especially when
you smoke 2 packs a day. My question is
if I quit now will my baby still be at
risk?
I need all the support I can get.
Thank you
amber

That depends on how much you actually cut
down to...

The first trimester is the most critical
part of the pregnancy. It is when the
baby is forming and developing the most.
I would be concerned about pumping
chemicals and toxins into a baby by the
way of 20 cigs a day.

I agree with you...Nevermind I knew not to
post this all I wanted was a little help
and support. Try not to judge me I really
do mean well and am trying very hard to do
the right thing.
I just was turned down for medicade, I had
to quit my job due to all the chemicals
that were involved and my husbands
deductiable is 5000.00 which i'm not even
on yet. I'm a little freaked out at the
moment.

I dont think she was being mean..She was
just giving you the facts about the stages
being the most important....I was a heavy
smoker as well and didn't find out I was
preggy until I was about 6 weeks
along..Once I did I quit cold turkey...It
was extreeeeeemely hard though!!!
You just have to realize that you aren't
quitting for yourself....You're actually
harming you own flesh and blood if you
continue...Even with one pack.....Wearing
your seatbelt all the time is something
that I had to deal with too!! Lol...
I dont wanna preach I just think you
should know that carbon monoxide and
methane are not some things that I would
want my baby to inhale....They do
essentially breathe what you breathe!!
Good luck honey ...And please don't think
that we're trying to gang up on you or
preach...Cuz i've been exactly where you
are and I know how much of a struggle
you're going through!!!

Good, you really need to quit. I hope
you can do it cold turkey like you said.
The first trimester is critical and
smoking is also linked to babies who are
born with birth defects when the mother is
smoking.
Are you taking your vitamins yet? This
is also very important.

Good good!! Prenatels are awesome!!!
Which ones are you taking??
My Dr. Gave me like 100 samples in the
beginning and I got to choose which ones
agreed with me the best!! I chose
primacare which has omega3 & 6, and it
increases baby birth weight (looks like my
weight too!!) lol!!

Good for you and us... I'm still smoking
here and there, i'm 29 and i've been a
smoker since I was 14. I'm so upset with
myself. I will quit for good. I hope you
do better then I have.
Cheers to quitting.

Quitting Smoking

Hi I hope that you have been able to quit.
If not I know some-one who had the same
problems as you and she managed to quit
by holding a picture of a baby (cut out of
a magazine) and everytime she wanted to
"light up" she burnt the picture with the
ciggie!! It really worked for her and
within two days she was human free!!!!!!
I understand how hard it can be to quit
smoking althou I was very lucky as smoking
made me feel really sick when I was preg
with 1st baby. So I was able to quit
easily.
Good luck
and remember never give up giving
up!!!!!!!!!!!!

I actually started a post when I tried to
quit in february (when I was in early
pregnancy). I was able to quit cold
turkey and have been smoke free since.
Even after having a miscarriage. I am
still ttc right now and am sooo happy that
i'll already be smoke free when I finally
do get preggo again. I figured i'd post a
link to my old post because I had alot of
really great advice given to me
there...And it's always nice to hear when
someone's been through the same thing and
made it.
So...Here ya go:

I was told by my doc not to quit in the
first 4 months because the baby goes
through withdraws an theres more chance of
misscaraging is that true
