Cause of Lupus
Posted: 02-15-06 11:38am

I had fifth disease back in winter 2002. I read that there could be a link in later on developing lupus. I read this here; http://www.Webmd.Com/ hw/lupus/hw123423.Asp
am I reading it right ? I now have alot of the symptoms but no rash on my face (just scalp) and my first ana was normal, I don't know the numbers. My first rheumy appt is tues. The 22 .
How should I prepare for this appt., what questions, items should I take, and so on? Maybe if I can get some good pointers from yall I can avoid some of the bad and useless times at the dr that so many people have.
Is anyone familiar with Dr. Knapp in nashville?
Thanks

Hello I read up on that site that says fifth disease can cause lupus so here is what you should ask your doctor and what you should bring, and if this is to late then think of it for the next time.

Ask:

- about the fifith disease and lupus and show her a print out of the site
- tell her/him your symptoms and those that relate to lupus
- tell her your history of illnesses and surgeries
- tell her what medication your currently on and any diagnosises you have already been given.

Bring:

- list of medications
- list of symptoms and those that relate to lupsu
- list of questions that you may think of over a period of time and this goes for any doctor appointment, when you make an appointment get a pen and paper out and leave it where you can get to it easy and then anytime when you think up a question or see a new symptom write it down right away so you don't forget!

- pen and paper to write responses
- any reading material that you have found book or online print or copy and bring it, but don't expect her to read it on the spot just give it to her to look over for next time.

** also a little tip is bring something to help with pain, i'm not sure what med's your on but if you can have advil or tylenol it would be a good idea to bring some I find after a doctors appointment when they've been poking and proding i'm so sore and if you have to drive home it can be a pain, also some juice or a ceral bar if they take blood out and you feel like fainting.

Below is my doctor bag idea.

Doctor bag I take a simple canvous big bag (you can use any nice size bag) and I fill it with these items for any doctor visits

- list of my meds and diagnosis
- my current symptoms (if I noticed any new ones)
- questions I thought of during the week
- a back rest or pillow (small ) I find the chairs hard on my back
- a small blanket (if you get cold sometime I omit this)
- a ceral bar with a box of juice in a zip lock bag (so no mess) really you can bring anythign to eat incase of hunger or if they take blood i'm animic so I already have low blood and if they take blood I need something to eat after
- bottle of water (important)
- a book to read or music (portable cd player, ipod ...)
- all nessesary cards (insurance, medical whatever)
- mad money usually I keep a ten dollar bill and some loose change usually a five in change just in case or for parking etc.......

I keep all this in a bag in my closet and I have this one as my doctor bag and a similar one with a portable tooth brush, tooth paste and pjs for any emergancy hospital visits.

Hope that helps
