My bf and I tried using vcf last week
because condoms cause me irritation. We
followed the directions exactly and the
plan was for him to pull out, but we got
carried away and he came inside me. I've
read a lot about vcf being anywhere from
80 to 96% effective, but is that with
internal ejaculation? My periods average
about 29 days and it was on day 12 that we
had sex. My next period won't be until
the end of next week *hopefully* and we're
kind of on edge. Can anyone provide any
info????

well according to that site anywehre from
6-26% of women using it will become
pregnant. That's about 80%
effectiveness, and a little worse and a
little better in some cases. No where
near 90%, it's 84% at it's best.

Yes, by vcf I meant vaginal contraceptive
film.

Did you follow all of the instructions?
If memory serves, you have to insert it
about 30 minutes to an hour before you
have sex for it to be completely
effective.
Are you thinking of going on a more
reliable form of birth control soon?
And, in the future, if you are worried
about the possibility of pregnancy, go and
get emergency contraception.
Also, the "pull out" method is a horrible
way to try to prevent pregnancy. Before
a man ejaculates, he secretes a small
amount of pre-ejaculate. This liquid
clears his urethra of acid that can build
up from urination. This liquid is
usually clear and doesn't look like semen
but looks can be deceiving.
Pre-ejaculate can have some sperm in it
and you can get pregnant from it.
Do all condoms irritate you, or is it just
latex? They do make lambskin condoms if
you are allergic to latex. This would
give you extra protection against
pregnancy because it works as a barrier
but it wouldn't give you any protection
against sti/std's.
You can also buy the sponges from any
store and use them with vcf. This would
be doubling your methods and would be a
bit safer.
You can also talk to you doctor about the
possibility of a diaphram or cervical cap.

Yes, I followed all the instructions
exactly, and I know that the pull out
method isn't the best method of birth
control. However, we were comfortable
with the risk with the plan being to pull
out before he ejaculated. But it didn't
work out that way.
We've tried several different kinds of
condoms and they all iritate me. I don't
think it is an allergy so much as just
irritation from the friction they cause,
regardless of whether additional lube is
used. I have an appointment to get a
prescription for the pill in about two
weeks, as long as i'm not already
pregnant.
