Can I Cardio Train while using the Beta Blocker Atenolol? Posted: 02-17-06 00:03am
What effect will the beta blocker Atenolol
have on my ability to cardio train
efficiently and can I reduce the
medication if necessary? My last blood
pressure reading was 156/99.

Atenolol is a selective beta1-blocker used
in the treatment of high blood pressure,
angina pectoris, paroxysmal
supraventricular tachycardia and
conditions after a heart attack. Atenolol
won’t reduce your ability for cardio
training. On the contrary, it has very
useful impact on the heart. It reduces
heart rate, heart muscle contractility,
and blood pressure. Dosage is
individualized; an average dose is 50mg
per day. You will do well to decrease your
weight.
