Im really curious how often pple get false positive. I would be so angry if I actually got a false positive and got my hopes up high. But I did just read that some pple got false positive with first response which I just used so I dont know now. Im scared actually im not preggy =( what do u think?

I dont know about first response coz I am a clear blue girl!
But when I fell pregnant with my second 2nd baby I did 3 hpt they all came back positive although very faint. So I went to the doctors, he was alittle confused because I hadn't had a period for 2years and everyone thought I couldn't conceive, (it was a big shock for us too!)
he asked me to do a test for him so he could definitely confirm it, but it wasn't a blood test it was another wee test that I had to do in the morning so he could send it away to be tested. In 5 days I had the answer he told me it was negative - but then he told me he wanted me to do another one in 2 weeks because he had never known so many hpt's to be wrong. I did the doc's test again 2weeks later and it came back positive so my experience with home kits are better than with the doctors!!
Good luck snowygirl and I hope this time is your time!

Why wouldn't your doc have just done a blood test? To go through all that must have been frustrating.

I dont know, but I dont ever remember having any blood test with either my pregnancies until after I was 10wks gone, and this test was the rountine test for h.I.V and stuff so I dont know if this is the same thing even.
With my 1st child my doc just took my word for it that I was pregnant and sent me a scan date for 12 weeks. Is this not normal?
Maybe I should get different doctor!! Lol!

I have a weird story about home preg tests. My cycles have never been regular, they range from 30-50 days. I had a period on dec 6 and on jan 5th I took a test because I had to take this medicine you can't take while you are preg. It was an equate (walmart) test and it popped up positive. I was freaked out, but then I took two accu-clear tests the next day and the next and they were negative. I was pissed. I called equate and health forum them out. Fast forward 9 days later, the 14th I took another test because I was going to take the medicine....It was positive. I had ovulated on the 3rd of january and the equate test had picked up what little hcg I had in my system in 2 days. Now I am 9 weeks pregnant. I have always been told a line is a line, no matter how faint. False positives are very few. Congrats.

False positive are rare. False negative are common since different hpts pick up hcg at different levels. I had found a website once that said what level the hcg had to be at for each test to pick it up. The ones I use have to have at least 50. My blood test for my dd picked it up at 12. I think if you saw a line you are good to go.

Congratulations rainy!

Feeling Less Symptoms
Posted: 02-22-06 23:54pm

Im going to test again tomorrow to see if the line of hpt gets darker. But im bit worried since I feel not that many symptoms, like the cramping decreased could it mean actually im not preggy?

I don't really have any symptoms anymore either. Every now and again I get feelings like my period is coming (lower back pain, mild cramps) but I remember that from my last pregnancy. Oh, and I still have killer gas! Luckily I have a gassy dog I can blame it on! And earlier tonight I was waiting for a show to come on and decided to rest my eyes during the commercial break before it came on and I woke up a half hour later. That was weird since I didn't even feel tired while I was watching tv.

So don't give up hope yet!

I've decided after 4 faint lines that I should just accept the fact that i'm pregnant. I'm going to use the last 2 tests though just to make sure my lines get darker and i'll make an appointment on friday. I want to be excited but it's just not real for me yet.

Good luck!!! Baby dust! Baby dust! Baby dust!!!

I read that false pos dont usually happen and I worked in a hospital lab while in college. Our test which are a lot like hpt have a hcg reactant in it and when the urine hits the reactant there is a color reaction that gives you the two (pink/blue) line that tell us we are pregnant. False neg are more likely because of low hcg levels. I think that some test can detect hcg levels at 25 to 50 mlu, which could be 10 days past implantation or 14 dpo. I tried an aims test which could pick up at 20 mlu however it did not come back pos, but today when I used a 1st response it came back pos. It was a faint line but it would not react if I did not have over 25mlu hcg in me urine. So long store short, we are more likely than not pregnant. I have a blood test tomorrow so I will know for sure. Hope that helped you.
Congrats
