Q: Extreme Lower Back Pain

I am just in my 12th week and have been experiencing extreme back pain in my lower back on one side of my spine, pretty close to my tail bone. I have a friend who has three kids who said it is normal. Said that it is the baby laying on a nerve. Does this sound right? Anyone else have any ideas. I am losing a lot of sleep and some times it brings me to tears or takes my breath away. Crying or Very sad

Back pain in pregnancy is normal, especially since your baby is growing every day, and your body is now carrying weight it wasn't used to holding before. I don't mean to worry you, but extreme back pain could also be a sign of labor... If it is so extreme that it takes your breath away, maybe you should ask your doctor about having an ultrasound to make sure that there is normal development. If it gets too bad, you can take tylenol or aleve for pain relief and you can also use a heating pad for 15 minutes increments. Try these methods and keep me posted! Goodluck!
