Accuracy of Pregnancy Tests
Posted: 02-26-06 05:55am

Hello... I would just like to ask, I had a urine pregnancy test done in a laboratory-it came out negative. However I had a few questions..How accurate is it if I had it only 3 weeks after the "intercourse"? Is it possible that I get a different result 2-3 weeks from now? Because some are saying that it could still change if I miss a period 2-3 weeks from now...

Note: I put "intercourse" in double quotes because we really didn't have sex, what happened was that I may have pre cum on my hand and he touched my hand with his hand and he touched me just a little outside of the vagina (i still had menstruation during this occurence, on my 4th day I think) - but I was reading all these forums here and they say that in this scenario it is possible that I get pregnant. This is why I took a test only 3 weeks from this occurence (i nver had any sexual interaction of any kind after that...)

i really really need help! I am not ready yet for a baby and I want to have one when I am very very stable. Please, any reply confirming anything would really help. Thanks!

It's really just because i'm very paranoid about this stuff. I realy don't want to have a baby until i'm sure I can give him/her everything he/she needs - which I guess would be 3-5 years from now... This "possibility" has given me so much scare, I swear i'll never do anything near that again...I already talked to my boyfriend and he was so sweet bout it and he agreed that we never engage in anything that will make me this nervous again... I guess, he also told me he believes in responsible parenting and right now, since we both just graduated college, we can't afford that yet....

Thanks! Looking forward to your replies!!!

Hi!
The good news is...The odds of becoming pregnant this way are far less than if you had actual vaginal intercourse. The other good news is that women are not usually fertile when they are menstruating. Odds are very good that you're not pregnant. You can test if your period comes late (this is the best time to test). Remember though...If you worry and stress over this...You could actually cause your period to be late. So...Put it out of your mind and just make sure that your bf cleans up before touching you next time. I'm sure you have nothing to worry about.
Hope this helps! :)

You had your period, you got a negative pregnancy test, and the way you could have gotten pregnant is very uncommon, i'm going to have to say you have no reason to be worried.
