Pain After Iv 3 Weeks Later Posted: 02-26-06 20:00pm
I had a miscarriage on feb. 3rd. When I
went to the emergency room, they started
an iv on the top of my left hand. The
nurse then came in and put mirphine and
phenigrin(sp) through the iv. It burned
like hell. My entire arm turned red and
blotchy. She said it was just a reaction
to the drugs. The next nurse came in I
dont know how long later to start a saline
drip through said iv. The saline also
burned like hell. This nurse noticed
that the iv was no longer in my vein.
She moved the iv to my right arm. All of
a sudden the saline didnt burn. Well two
days later, my left hand swelled up. My
entire arm was and is still sore. I have
these wierd bumps along the vein in my
left arm. Any ideas?

Very possibly an infection. When the
second nurse came in, she fixed the iv
properly and you no longer had pain. The
redness in your arm should have told the
other nurse that she had perferated your
vein and the needle needed to be placed
into a new/different vein.
You really should go back to the er or if
you have a regular family doctor, go to
them and get some treatment for the wound
they did to you. If it is infected, you
may need anti-biotics and other meds.
Get some good help this time and I am very
sorry for your lose, please accept my
condolences for that.
